Xavier Barquet Obituary

BARQUET, XAVIER J., 46, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in Miami, on the eight year anniversary of his mother's death. On January 29, 2006, Xavier was in a Los Angles-area hospital when he suffered a respiratory failure. Xavier was the son of Javier and Zenaida Barquet of Coral Gables. Xavier grew up amidst a tight- knit family of five brothers where he led his siblings in daily child's play, discovery, laughter and happiness. Like his brothers, he obtained a Catholic education highlighted by his 1977 graduation from Christopher Columbus High School. He was a brilliant university honor student receiving dual degrees in Biology and Drama from New York University in 1981. He was a graduate of the prestigious Lee Strasberg Institute for the Performing Arts. In 1981, he moved to Los Angeles where he pursued his passion for the motion picture industry. Over the course of his career he appeared in numerous television shows, commercials, print ads and he produced and directed his own South Florida-based motion picture. To all his projects, he brought boundless energy and unflagging enthusiasm. He demonstrated a rare interest in his peers aspirations, opening many doors for flagging actors and actresses seeking opportunities. He was a faithful Catholic who practiced his faith in all his relations. He is survived by his loving family: father Dr. Javier Barquet, and his four brothers: Edwin, Nelson, Roy and Glenn and nephews: Justin and Brendan and niece Genevieve. Visitation was held on Thursday night at Caballero- Woodlawn. Services will be held at 3:30pm on Friday afternoon at The Church of the Little Flower, Coral Gables, at 3:30pm. Burial to follow at Flagler Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates masses in his memory or as Xavier would wish, donations in his mother's memory to the South Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Xavier was a good friend of mine back in the days when we were at the University of Miami. It's been many years since we were in touch and since it's his birthday I was just thinking of him and decided to look him up. I am heart-broken to see that he is no longer with us. He was such a sweet and loving guy and was so enthusiastic in everything he did. My condolences go out to his family and friends. I'm sure you still miss him dearly. I hope all the happy memories you have of him make you smile. Kate Stoker

Dear Dr. Barquet, Edwin, Nelson, Roy and Glenn,

I don't know if you remember me, but I was the girlfriend of Xavier's who he moved to LA with. I was shocked and completely saddened to hear of his sudden passing. I am so sorry for your lose, but I know that he is in Heaven with your beautiful Mother. Xave had a very adventureous life and I'm happy to know that he was able to touch so many lives and to help so many with their careers. He was instrumental in helping me get started in my career so long ago. He was an amazing actor as well.

May God Bless you all and know that my heart is with you. God Bless Xavier and may he forever rest in peace.

Sadly and sincerely,

Kelly Mullis

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Xavier. My late husband (Phil Jones) and he worked together for several years in the entertainment business and were personal friends. My husband always talked highly of "X" and I had just spoken to him on seveal occasions last year. I just found found out that he had passed away. My heartfelt condolences to the family. He was a kind soul. I'll never forget shortly after my husband died he sent me a song bite that he told me his mother loved called "Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin. My fondest memories of "X" are of him at our wedding when he and my husband danced the "curly shuffle" on the dancefloor. Since they were both huge Stooge fans. And the time he took my husband out for his bachelor night on the town and my husband stumbled in at 6 in the morning telling me some funny "X" story. He will surely be missed.

Again, I am sorry for your loss.

My heart goes out to you!

Dear Dr. Barquet and family,

I am deeply saddened by the news of Xavier's untimely passing and send heartfelt wishes of sympathy during this time of your loss.

I knew Xavier in Miami when I was a TV commercial actress. I was always impressed by his enthusiasm, passion and dedication to his beliefs. He seemed to always put every ounce of energy into his projects, whatever they were. I can still envision his dark eyes filled with excitement for his love of film. He seemed to be driven to achieve his goals with great intensity. I will forever hold him in my heart and mind.

May you be comforted by warm memories of his extraordinary life and gifts to us all.

Sending blessings,

Alicia Sirkin

Ed and Nel:

Although we have lost touch over the past few years, I have many fond memories of times we were together. I am deeply saddened by the news that Xavier has passed.

The Obituary is right on about his opening doors for flagging artists. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity he gave this particular flagging no-talent hack to write and record songs for his movie soundtrack!

In my sadness however, I take comfort in knowing he has found peace. May we all be so blessed.

Dear Dr. Barquet and family. My family and I are so very profoundly sorry to hear about your loss. G-d must have a great purpose for your son to have taken him so soon. We are unable to understand the wisdom of such actions. I believe that it was Henry David Thoreau who wrote that "Memories give you the power to collect roses in the winter." In this, your winter, may you be able to feel the warmth of the sunshine that the memories of all of the wonderful times with your son bring to all of you.
