Mary Helen Flagler Turner

Mary Turner Obituary

Mary Helen Flagler Turner Mary Helen Turner was born Oct. 27, 1914, the daughter of A. Roy and Helen Irene Breidenstein Flagler. She passed on Feb. 25, 2008 in Boise, Idaho. She was born at 1711 West Boise Avenue, Boise, Idaho, in the house owned by her great- grandmother, which is still standing today. A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Helen on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 2 p.m., at Summers Funeral Home at 12th and Bannock in Boise. Helen attended the old Garfield School, which was located across the street from the current Garfield School, and the old Central School. After graduating from Boise High in 1932, she attended Link's School of Business. Helen was employed by the State of Idaho, Dept. of Finance, Sales Tax, and Store Licensing Division from 1935 until 1939. In 1954, she was hired by Boise Cascade Corporation General Office where she worked for several years. In 1962, Helen went to work for the Boise National Forest Supervisor's Office from where she retired in 1976 as a supervisory resource clerk. Helen made many friends at the Forest Service and had regular lunches with them through the years. In 1979, Helen became a member of Al-Anon where she became active in service, helped answer the telephone, did the bookkeeping for the literature center, and became a district officer, ending her career with them as treasurer. She made many lasting friends in Al-Anon. Helen was a bookkeeper to the end as she would even walk several miles to get to work when she had car trouble. She gave many of the nurses and aides at the Boise Health and Rehab Center a run for their money by making sure they were doing their job right! Our family wishes to thank them for all the wonderful care and love that Helen got from everyone there. Helen married Joe E. Turner on April 29,1939 and were later divorced. Three children were born from this union. She is survived by her daughter E. Irene Turner Earl, and sons Jack E. Turner (Linda) and Charles R. Turner (Kathy). She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Wm. E. Flagler and his wife, Helen, along with three nephews and one niece. In lieu of flowers please honor Helen by donating to a favorite charity of your choice. As per Helen's wishes she will be buried with her mother at Morris Hill Cemetery at a later date.

I knew Helen through her work at the Al-Anon Literature Center. Her energy, spunk and sense of humor were a real example to me of how to live!

We send our condolences to Helen's family. We own the house on Boise Avenue where she was born. I met her once many years ago when she stopped by and asked to see the inside of the house that she had been born in. It was a privilege to show her around. We love the house and all the history that goes with it. May Helen rest in peace.

Helen was quite a lady. I will never forget the laughs, the good conversations, and the trips to Jackpot together. Have a blessed journey.
