Already, I miss Archie, though I never met him in person.
Some thing came to me in the hills my last night out, last week.
Sincerely, and I worry about the other pioneers.

Here's to Archie, one of the greatest bigfoot story-tellers ever, together at last with Dahinden reminiscing the olde days and the way it was....thanks for the memories, Arch!

Archie,Joe Hammond,Uncle Milt...They taught me to duck and pheasant hunt, to love the outdoors, and to drive Uncle Milt's station wagon when they couldn't!
I met Archie and Rhea in 1969 or so and it has been a wonderful friendship. Archie made sure I got good grades in JR.High so I could be included on the Wednesday pheasant hunts, and weekend duck hunts. If you never visited the "Pad" in Biggs you have NO idea how exciting my formative years were.
Archie, thank you!

Well, Buck, I guess you know Bigfoot real well now. You could talk up a good one.

Archie, his infectuous laugh. The best story teller I ever knew. Fishing Lake Tahoe, water skiing and then there was Big Foot. I still can't say "Archie and Dell" (his brother, my Dad) in the same sentence without smiling. Those two were over-the-top when together. The time we had to alert the Forestry Department they were overdue at their check point by three days. Their World Olympic trips. The famous stop watches that clocks over 100 records many world records.

Archie-- Buck, as he was known by some of his peers-- was my Great Uncle, the brother of my grandfather, Del.
And those words sum up my opinions of him-- Great.
At a time in my life when hope seemed all but gone, he, and my grandfather took me under their wings, and made me their reclamation project to instill some light, and hope in my still young mind, and outlooks.
They showed me a world that forever changed how I saw life. Mountains, and rivers, and green meadows to take one's breath away. Tales of large creatures that dwarf even our tallest basketball stars. I.e., Shaq is a midget compared to these creatures, or so the tales go.
There's really only two words that can be said about all of this, and those are: Thank you.
Thank you for being so close and dear a "distant" relative.
Thank you for being a dear friend.
And I also want to thank you for welcoming my wife to our family. She too deeply appreciates being welcomed so openly, and with such warmth, love, and laughter.
I'll miss you Buck, er..., Uncle Archie.
I'll miss you more than words seem to adequately, or appropriately express.
And as for all those Sasquatch tales--
Ook, Ook, Ol' Buck Ook. Ol' Buck's gone home now, Ook. Time to say goodbye now Ook!

Archie had two wonderful gifts that made him a special Uncle: he captivated kids' imaginations with his stories, and he could make us laugh about anything. I know I'll really miss him.

Archie was one of my dad Joseph Hammond's closet friends, our next-door neighbor during my childhood, and the best storyteller I ever knew. He loved his family, Sasquatch, and nature. He will be deeply missed.
