Grace Irene Eberhart

1919 - 2011

Irene was born in Tecumseh, Oklahoma on December 13, 1919. She passed away on February 25, 2011 in Ellensburg, Washington. Irene was the only daughter of Frank and Bess Roark. Louis, Carl, Jay, Jess, Ray and Keith were her brothers.
Irene attended public school in Gypsum, Kansas and graduated in 1937. She worked as a housekeeper in Salina, Kansas for several years before moving to Denver, Colorado where she worked for Gates Rubber Company. While in Denver, she met and married Urban Allen Eberhart on August 3, 1944. When Allen went south on military duty, Irene returned to Kansas where Roger Craig Eberhart was born. The family moved to Denver then on to Toppenish, Washington where Carol Eberhart was born. Another move to Chico, California provided settlement for many years. Eventually, everyone relocated to Ellensburg.
Irene volunteered for the PTA and the Pacific Northwest Extension Service. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and taught 4-H kids how to cook and sew. Irene was a superb seamstress and quilter and she loved to sing, especially to her children. Both Irene and Allen were avid genealogists.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, her husband and four of her brothers. She is survived by brother Jay and his wife Marie in Albuquerque, New Mexico and brother Keith and his wife Peggy in Wichita, Kansas; son Roger and his wife Susan in Shoreline and daughter Carol and husband John Dyk in Thorp; granddaughters Beverly Dyk of Moses Lake, Liz Shields and husband Gregg of Jersey City, New Jersey, Jenny Dyk of Bothell, Shelly and husband John McDonough of Tacoma and Sarah Eberhart of Bellingham.
Burial will be at High Valley Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be at Dry Creek Assisted Living Community at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 4. Affordable Funeral Care is in charge of the arrangements.
