Robert Henry Obituary

HENRY, Robert Donald was born in Reading, PA July 22, 1920 where he resided with his mother's friend until age five when he was sent to be raised institutionally in New York and Rhode Island. Upon leaving his second orphanage at age eighteen he came to California where he had odd jobs, finally becoming a bartender arranging and handling parties for Hollywood stars.
Impressed with his personality and work ethic, Bob was asked to personally handle all social events at the Hearst Castle for Movie star Marion Davies for whom the castle was built by William Randolph Hearst. Marion backed Bob in his first and last venture in the restaurant business that lasted forty-five years. With her help he opened Bob Henry's Round Table "The House of Prime Rib" in Santa Monica. Bob lost his long battle for mortality on November 14th, 2008 in Tarzana Hospital. Bob Henry never married until 1992 and is survived by his wife June Cain Miller Henry. He is also survived by employees and the community that he loved and catered to. Services will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Dr., L.A., Wed., Nov. 19, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. Family requests no flowers.

Bob was a family friend, my mother Dani Chick and my father Charles Chick were friends. I spent time at the Round table in the 60's. I last saw him the day he sold the place. I was a teenager. My family photos had many pictures of Bob and my parents.

Bob was a great guy.

Dear Bob,
I only met you when I was a young boy. My mother and father (Gordon Campbell, Jr) brought me into the Round Table. I can remember how nice a man you were and what a great time my parents always had there. I have so many great stories of my father's from that time. He passed away some time ago. But my mom still talks about the place and everyone there. Thank you for all the joy you brought into their lives. You will be greatly missed. You touched so many lives. My sympathies to your family. God bless.

Dear Bob,
We never physically met. However, I feel like I know you through your wonderful wife & my good friend, June. You reinforced her existing strength, love & compassion of life in general. Please save a spot in Heaven so we can meet. Lots of Love, Pamela
