Stan was a dear friend and colleague at Washington U., Chevy Chase, HEW, and Tifereth Israel. Our families and our sons were friends. What a stellar career!! He was brilliant, funny, caring and a fellow Red Sox sufferer. My very belated condolences to the family.

I was lucky enough to meet Stan on the baseball field, years ago when our sons were playing Little League together. I will remember him as a warm, generous, insightful man with a great sense of humor.

I met Stan in 1976 when I worked for him at the Congressional Budget Office on long-term care financing. Although we did not agree on the potential role of private long-term care insurance, I always admired his energy, smarts and good humor. He did a lot and touched many people. We will miss him.
