Lois Isabelle (Mayberry) Cooper, of Whiteford, Maryland, 85 years old, passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2025. She was born on June 23, 1940, to Lewis and Jessie (McKinley) Mayberry. She was one of six siblings: Robert ('38), Lois ('40), Janet ('42), twins Jasper and James ('43), and John ('48).
Her childhood was spent living and working on farms in Harford County, where her father was employed. Among those were Holfeldt Farms, Cool Springs, Indian Springs, and, lastly, Todd Bros. in Pylesville, where she lived from the age of 10 into adulthood. Growing up on these farms, Lois and her siblings learned about hard work and responsibility. They each developed an incredible work ethic, which served them well in life.
Lois graduated from North Harford High School in 1958, on a Thursday. The very next day, she interviewed for a job at H.P. White Laboratory. She was hired and started that Monday. Fifty-three years later, in 2011, she retired from H.P. White. Lois took great pride in her career and was an integral part of running the office there, where her dedication and steady presence were deeply valued.
Lois also had a fulfilling personal life. She married Levi Cooper in 1962. Lois proved to be a very capable farm wife, not only bookkeeping and paying bills, but also hopping on a tractor to help with fieldwork or carrying buckets of feed for livestock.
Her greatest joy came in 1973 when she delivered a son, Steve Cooper. In 2000, Steve married Lori Bryant. Lois's next role was as grandmother to Cora and Calvin Cooper.
She enjoyed many years of retirement and cherished her grandchildren, whom she took great delight in. Her last years were spent in the loving care of family and friends as dementia slowly stole her away. Lois left behind quite a legacy that will live on in those fortunate enough to have known her.
