Theresa Shipley Obituary

Theresa M. Shipley longtime resident of Tyngsborough, MA; 72 TYNGSBOROUGH Mrs. Theresa M. Shipley, 72, a longtime resident of Tyngsborough, MA, died early Saturday morning, September 27, 2008, at the Town & Country Nursing Home in Lowell, MA, after a long illness. She was married to Mr. Herbert Shipley with whom she would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on October 28, 2008. Born in Lowell, MA, on May 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Renato and Mary (Vega) Abreu. She was a graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1954. Theresa retired in 1997 from the Tyngsborough Public Schools as the Food Service Director. She was also employed with Lowell Gas Company. She was a member of the Tyngsboro Evangelical Congregational Church in Tyngsborough, MA, where she was a Deaconess, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Church's Women's Club. Theresa loved to cook and do crafts, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Gerard Bordeleau, and Lisa and Robert Tremblay; a son and his wife, William and Doreen Shipley; and a brother and his wife, Francis and Colleena Abreu, all of Tyngsborough, MA. Theresa was also survived by 4 grandchildren, Melissa and her husband, Brian St. Louis of Dracut, MA, Deborah Bordeleau, William and Nicholas Shipley, all of Tyngsborough, MA; 2 great-grandchildren, Brandon and Hailey St. Louis of Dracut, MA; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late David Abreu of Tyngsborough, MA who died January, 2008. A memorial Service will be held Wed. at 11 A.M. at the Tyngsboro Evangelical Congregational Church in Tyngsborough, MA. Burial in Sherburne Cemetery, Tyngsborough, MA. Having grown up around the Shipley house hold, I have lot’s of fond memories. I called her “Ma” as did most of the kid’s in the neighborhood.
She saved me from her husband Herb (who I never got to call dad, lol) on more than one occasion. (Going out with her daughter Lisa was dangerous)
She was kind, generous, loving and understanding. Even though I am greatly saddened for the loss of Ma, I’m grateful to have memories I can look back on and smile. She will always have a place in my heart.
