S. Monaco Obituary

S. Robert Monaco active in Chelmsford community,WWII vet; 90 CHELMSFORD S. Robert Monaco, 90, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died on Thursday, October 16, 2008, with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Fran (Forcella) Monaco to whom he had been married to for 51 years and who survives him and resides in Chelmsford. He was born on August 24, 1918, in Waltham, a son of the late Domenico and Mary (Sargent) Monaco. He was a WWII veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Weston High School and also Northeastern University's College of Engineering. Prior to his retirement he worked in the Missile Systems Division at Raytheon Co. in Bedford. He served on the Board of Appeals in Chelmsford for 10 years, and was a member of the Chelmsford Historical Society where he had served as Treasurer for five years and of the Colonial Minutemen where he participated as a Musketman in the 1976 celebration. He also gave his service in the field of taxes for 10 years at the Chelmsford Senior Center. Mr. Monaco and Fr. Buckley started Troop 77 Boy Scouts at St. Mary's Church. He was on the council of the Lowell Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Nissitissit Fishing Club, the Knights of Columbus, and of the St. Vincent De Paul Society where he was also a former secretary. From his childhood days in Weston, he became interested in Steam Railroad Engines. This hobby led to a lifetime interest of learning about the many types of Steam Trains. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by, a brother, Richard Monaco and his wife, Margaret, and a nephew, Michael Swain. He was predeceased by a brother, Clem Monaco, and a sister, Louise Swain. MONACO S. Robert Monaco. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday morning at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Church, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford, MA 01824 or to St. Vincent DePaul Society C/O St. Mary's Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford, MA 01824.
