Brandon Lee: A Life Cut Short

by Legacy Staff

On the anniversary of his death March 31, 1993, we’re remembering the tragically short life and career of Brandon Lee.

Born Feb. 1, 1965, Lee was trained in martial arts as soon as he could walk by his legendary father, Bruce Lee. He was just 8 years old when his father died.

Lee’s early roles were in low-profile martial arts movies. 1993 was going to be a breakthrough year for the 28-year-old: he was starring in “The Crow,” based on the comic book, and had signed on to do the sequels if the movie was successful. Then suddenly he died, killed in an accidental shooting during filming. Like his famous father before him, Brandon Lee had died without warning, in his prime.

With the help of stunt doubles and special effects, “The Crow” was finished and released in 1994. The film became a commercial and critical success, attaining a cult following fueled by fans of the comic book, martial arts fans, and fans mourning Lee’s untimely death. In death, Brandon Lee was a star.

“Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well … and yet everything happens only a certain number of times.”
