Although we never got to know Matthew, we are sure you were proud of him and loved him with all your heart.
He is with God now and he is whole again. Matthew will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.
My God see you through this time and keep your family strong.

Carl, Vann, and Family. I am so sorry about Matthew. He sounds like he was a wonderful young man. I didn't find out until yesterday from Susan, Mom and Dad.
There is never a right thing to say at such a time of loss. Please try your best to celebrate Matthew's life. I pray that God lighten your sadness and hold all of you in the palm of His hand and give you strength.
Please let me know if there is anything I can possibly do for you or your family.

Matt and I went to high school together. He was very funny and always kept my spirits high. Even in the most of dramatic situations. I will miss his smile the most, for sure. The whole family is in my thoughts and prayers. You guys should feel blessed that you raised such a kind, thoughtful, compassionate man who touched the lives of many.

We have many fond, happy memories of Matt from his days as a youth hockey player. Families drove many miles, often in the pre-dawn hours, for youth hockey so some exciting moments, along with our hot coffee, were most welcome. Matt provided those thrilling moments. We can still picture him vividly as he would emerge with the puck, charge down the ice and, more often than not, score a goal for his team. His incredible speed and athletic skill were a delight to watch and an inspiration to his teammates who were so lucky to have him on the team. We treasure these memories. At this time of great sadness, we hope you will find some comfort in the lasting memories Matt gave to others.

Matthew, Thank you so much for so many wonderful memories. You were an amazing person whose smile will forever be in my memories and heart. You made me laugh when I felt down and you always had an optimistic attitude that I will always admire. Thanks for caring for my plants when I moved away. I love ya! Matthew through all his trials and tribulations with this illness still persevered through school to receive a degree in social work to help others. We think that pretty much sums up Matthew as a human being, putting others before himself, but always in a quiet and reserved way. He will be greatly missed and we feel truly blessed to have known him.

Matthew, I can't imagine returning to work without you there. I am so lucky that I got to know you in school, and then build a friendhip with you at DSS. Thank you for helping me learn to treasure the things that are important in life, and laugh at the things that are not. Your friend always.

I am so thankful for the great memories you gave me. You would always smile at me and say "hey girl" and it would make me just laugh. I miss those nights at Gino Russo, and how we use to pick on all the old people. I will never forget how you use to ride your motorized bike and it would take you forever to get no where. I can truly say that I loved you as a person, and whenever you were around you brighten my day. Even though you made me eat terrible burritos, you were so special and you will be missed terribly. I love you Matthew Zick.

Vann, Carl, Karla, and Julie, I will always remember the swim meet where Matt was aged up 2 age groups for the relay. The much bigger swimmer in the next lane gave him a look that conveyed his lack of respect for Matt's size and skills. When the race was over, MacGregor lost but Matt had kept up with the swimmer stroke for stroke despite the height and size difference. When the other swimmer emerged from the water, his comment was: "Man that kid is good!" Matt was fun to watch and my girls always enjoyed being around him over the years from kindergarten on. While I can't imagine your pain, I just want you all to know that many thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Wow! What an impression he left on this world. I was blessed to be his friend as all of us were. He helped me get through school and a very hard time in my life. He was sent here to make all of our lives better. He did an outstanding job and this world will not be the same without him. Therefore, we should learn to live our lives as he did. Enjoy and bring laughter to as many as you can.

Reading all these wonderful things people have said about Matthew makes it so hard to understand why it was his time. My heart breaks for his family and I hope all the wonderful memories you all shared as a family will help you through this very difficult time. Know that there are so many people that love you and want to help in any way they can. He seemed to be the kind of friend that everyone would want to have. He will be missed by many.

You made a difference in my life, and you knew that. You were apart of me. I remember you ALWAYS being there and making me feel safe, you gave me unconditional love. I miss the random "pop up" moments you came into my life and feeding marley wasabi, kildaire farms, annie jones, epipunk, chapstick, our talks about life and how we so badly wanted to figure it all out, bronco, escort, applecross, vw, volvos, wilmington, raleigh, omg. there is so much. I am thankful that you were such a big part of my life and I am blessed to have known you. Please don't ever leave my side. I wish I could be there, but you know it is tough, I would give anything to spend one more moment with you. I MISS YOU and I know you know how much I have ALWAYS LOVED YOU and I will always love you.
I will continue making a difference in the world and letting my soul shine, just as you did.

FYI - I will find that "rock" that you always told me to find.. here, in Arizona and I will have a special memorial for you.

i won't ever forget that you called me your angel.. the days sitting with you in your room listening to the cure and giggling incessantly.. dancing at gino russo's and you pretending to be my boyfriend to keep old creepy dudes at bay.. watching over you every night in the hospital that time.. and how mad you were that i made you go.. and how thankful you were after.. the steak dinner you made me.. the robe and the incense your mom got me as a thank you for being your friend and caring about you so much.. how you needed the sound of the ocean to fall asleep at night..
i am sorry i moved so far away. i know i always promised you i'd come back and i'm sorry i didn't make it soon enough..
you will always hold a piece of my heart.. i love you and i'd give anything to see that smiling face of yours again..
