George Bessette Obituary

George E. Bessette "Old Dad" of Brookfield, husband of Charlotte M. Bessette, died peacefully on September 21, 2006, at Danbury Hospital. He was 76.
George was born February 14, 1930 in Franklin, Vt., the son of the late Phillias and Angeline (Bouchard) Bessette. George served the U.S. Marine Corps for four years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He began his roofing career with Stamford Roofing and continued on with Spinnards Roofing for many years; then expanding his roofing talent, he opened a successful business with his sons.
His favorite pastime was being with his sons to lend a hand or be a spectator at their racing events. He was their #1 Fan.
Besides his wife of 50 years, celebrated on September 1, 2006, George leaves three children and their spouses, Anita Bessette Leonard and her husband Max of Danbury, George Bessette and his wife Amanda of Danbury, Phillip Bessette and his wife Dawn of New Milford; six grandchildren, Keith and Jonathan Ambrose, Alana and George Bessette Jr., Mackenzie Bessette and Travis Leonard; one sister, Rita Lacouture of Brockton, Mass.; one brother, Raymond Bessette of Granville, N.Y.; and dear friends, George and Antonia Huse of Danbury; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Gaston Bessette; and two sisters, Fernande Piche and Frances Kolb.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m., where a funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment in Wooster Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homeland Aid and Assistance, 60 Newtown Road, Suite 87, Danbury, CT 06810.
