Jane Henson Obituary
The company says Jane Henson died Tuesday at her Connecticut home following a battle with cancer. She was 78.
She and Jim Henson met in a University of Maryland puppetry class in the mid-1950s, and they became creative and business partners in the development of the Muppets.
The Hensons married in 1959 and had five children: Lisa, Cheryl, Brian, John and Heather. The pair separated in 1986, and Jim Henson died in 1990.
In 1992, Mrs. Henson created and funded The Jim Henson Legacy to preserve his artistic contributions.
A memorial Mass for Jane Henson is planned for next week.

I know this is a very difficult time for Jane Henson family. Even though we get sick and die the cause is because we inherited sin so its comforting to know that in the near future paradise will be here and we get to see our loved ones once again.

My dad, LeRoy, was your parent's milkman for years when we were all young. Dad would tell us all stories of your mom and dad and how nice they were to him, even offering him a job with them before the Muppets became famous! Unfortunately dad thought it was too big of a risk since he had a family to support himself, but he never stopped telling us how wonderful your mom and dad were. Your mom and dad gave the world wonderful creations, never to be forgotten by both the young and old. May your family be comforted by the pleasure your mother gave the world. I'm sorry you both are gone. I told my students how puppetry is able to take people out of their worries. They wrote and produced a puppet show about Quabbin Reservoir. Your parents must have worked very long hours. Their legacy will go on.

In 1985, either in Jan. or Feb.the Muppets on Tour came to Rockford, Il and my 4 yr old son and my 1 or 2 month old son and I were at one of the preshow events and Jane actually was sitting next to me in the floor seats and holding my newborn son. She was so very nice and so interested in my kids. I have never forgotten that day and have that show in pictures in my sons scrapbook. She holds a special place in my heart. She will be missed.

You only get one mom and yours was pretty great! Your mother taught me a few things that I will never forget. Yes, some about puppetry, but also some about life. I remember one day, at lunch,she went on at length about how much she adored you all(her kids) when you were babies. Her face was all lit up talking about all 5 of you. Now that I have kids-I get it. She was a very smart and unforgettable person. I crossed paths with her in classes and at many festivals. She made a great impression on me. Although I never wanted to bother her as time moved away from the days I would run into her-I often thought of her. I hope you will find comfort in your memories of her.

Thanks to the Henson family, I (at age 1 and up for Sesame Street)and my kids have been greatly entertained! From Sesame to Fraggle Rock to Labyrinth to the Muppets (and movies) and Willow. In the mid-1980s, I was a marketing manager at a local mall. The muppets came to Utah to do a show at the mall and I had the opportunity to talk with and meet the Hensons. They were such lovely people. They brought such happiness and good life-lessons to so many children by their creations and generosity. My condolences to the family.

I am saddened to read of Jane Henson's death. Although I have no particular connection, I felt a sympatico with The Hensons. My first child was born in 1969, and was an avid & original viewer of the then new & groundbreaking "Sesame Street". He recognized letters in the pharmacy from his stroller at 20 months! The show then became "required viewing" for my subsequent 5 children. Jim always seemed like such a great guy, & the fact that his wife shared my first name, & we both had big families made me identify with them even more. I now watch & support PBS regularly & when I do, I often hear "supported by the Jane Henson Foundation". Jane & Jim were not only talented & generous, they added immeasurably to thousands of both little & big people's lives. They certainly left their mark & will be remembered with fondness by many.
