To the Sheppard family, we are so sorry for your loss. Though Bob lived a long and fulfilling life, it still is not easy to part with a loved one. There is solace in knowing that he is no longer suffering for the bible tells us at Ecclesiastes 9:5 that the dead are conscience of nothing at all. However, we can draw comfort in knowing that one day soon it will be possible for us to see our dead loved ones again. May your family strive to live for that day.

I'll never forget freshman year "Speech 101" in 1972 @ St John's. Sitting with my best friend the first day and saying "I know that guy" the reply "You think you know everyone". I later worked with Chris at Eastern Airlines, getting seats behind Home Plate from his Dad, The Voice of Yankee Baseball, Bob Sheppard. Thanks!

To theSheppard Family,
On behalf of the Budelman family, I would like to express our condolences to you all. My father went to St. John's Prep and to St. John's College(University) with your dad, and he always spoke highly of him. We attended St. Christopher's with you- I was in Chris's class. I know that your dad will be sorely missed, but he has certainly given this world much joy. Last summer I went to Cooperstown for the first time. One of the exhibits simulated Yankee Stadium, and your dad's voice came over the loudspeaker. I felt so happy to hear it, as it also reminded me of my dad. All the Best to each of you.
Sincerely,
Mary Budelman McPeake

To the Shepard family my prayers are with you. Now Bob gets to face off with his voice's name sake. What a wonderful place. I remember Bob's voice as a youngster at Yankee stadium in the early 50s. Again when I returned 40+ years later "the voice of God" had not changed. Even hearing him during TV games brings back the very fond memories of long ago. May God's power of comfort be with your family.

Mr. Sheppard was one of the most influential people in my life. As my speech and debate coach for 4 years, he gave me a love of the spoken word, the ability to think quickly and logically, a fearlessness in the face of overwhelming odds, and a belief in myself that has held fast these many years. He has never been far from my thoughts and will stay in my prayers. My deepest condolences to all of his family. And a profound thank you for sharing your father with me.

In 1952, Mr. Sheppard (as he was called by the students of John Adams High School) first entered my life. Over the ensuing years he has had a singular lasting influence on its course . He instructed me in the art of rhetoric; instilled in me the importance of discipline,self-confidence; sparked my love of poetry and the English language.
I was privileged to know him as a teacher, a warm human being, a man of character, and a true gentleman, to whom I owe so much.
Thank you, Mr. Sheppard.
My sincerest condolences to the family.

Chris,
Sincere condolences to you and your family on the passing of your father.
With fond memories of playing school yard stickball with you at Milburn School in Baldwin during our high school years, I had the greatest respect and admiration for your dad.
As a lector at St. Christopher's, he proclaimed the Word with clarity and joy. As the Public Address Announcer at Yankee Stadium, he made the stadium and game experience memorable and "world class." You knew you were at Yankee Stadium when you heard Bob Sheppard's voice and welcome.
May you and your family be comforted by your faith, family, friends, memories and your father's many fans.
In sympathy,
Edward Sparkowski

I never met Bob, but I grew up with him. He was the voice of Yankees Stadium, and it was such a pleasure to listen to him announce the players, God Bless America, etc. No matter who they get, no one will ever replace Bob, oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Sheppard. It is a shame he never got a chance to do one game in the new stadium. I am sure, St. Christopher's will have a problem replacing him as a Lecturer. I never got a chance to hear him read the scriptures, but I guess it was an experience. My loss.
To Mrs. Sheppard - Mary - and the rest of his family, hang in there. You all are in my prayers. I have a Yankees unform shirt with no. on the back. In the left sleeve is no's. 5 & 10. As of tomorrow, there will be a RS on the sleeve also. Peace

I would like to express my condolences to the family of Bob Sheppard. God cares about what you are experiencing. Anxiety can rush in when we lose a loved one. That is why Philip 4:6,7, God says, "Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus".

To the Sheppard Family,
Robert Leo Sheppard molded my life in many ways. He was my Speech and Debate Coach at Sacred Heart Academy and taught me to only use hand motions above the waist, to ennuciate and that one could never speak too slow. He was the spirit in Room 112 along with Sr. Lizzie Lou. We worked so hard for him in debate, exempt, original and drama competitions and we always tried to make him proud. And we did getting major wins in CFL and LIFA tournaments. You never knew which mix he would pick to compete until he wrote it on the board but we were all ready to do our best for him and SHA. I remember the time we had to wash his Volkwagon on a bet as we lost the finals to Chaminade.
My life was deeply impacted by your husband and Dad. He taught me so much that helped me in business, addressing groups in public speaking, speaking extemp, and leading my son's 5th grade drama production with 68 children all teaching them throw your voice, and speak slow...
I will always remember your husband and Dad as a special person who yes was the voice of the Yankees, but more importantly taught me how to use my voice, meet great friends and be able to speak on my feet.
I hope to meet him in heaven and hear is words..."Well Done" in only a way he can.
With Prayers, Thanks and Love

To the Sheppard Family:
I grew up a Yankee fan is the mid 60’s and remember my first game at Yankee Stadium which was a night game. I was about 11 years old and the two things I remember most was the voice of your father introducing the players and the color of the green grass of the field. Bob Sheppard will always be remembered as a N.Y. Yankee.
Our family is looking forward to hearing your dads voice introducing Jeter at this years All Star Game.

Mr. Sheppard was our Speech & Debate Coach at Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead NY in the late 1960s and early 1970s. We knew him as "Robert Leo Sheppard." I had no idea at the time that he had another life at Yankee Stadium as the voice of God, but practicing a speech for Mr. Sheppard was a kind of Judgment Day. Precision and clarity were drummed into us. Under his tutelage, we won numerous individual and team local and national events. Forty-one years after first meeting him, I still treasure the grace and warmth (and self-discipline and pacing and e-nun-cee-AY-shun) Mr. Sheppard brought to our young lives.

Mr. Sheppard was a teacher of mine at John Adams HS in the mid 1950's. I well remember him as such a distinguished man. I also worked in his office at times. I remember that I had to do a speech about a vacation and I choose Washington DC. Every time I said Arlington Cemetery I got points off as I said cemetery something like sometery. I also worked with his cousin, Jeanne Farnan, around 1980 and I sent our 1956 Adams yearbook home with her to show him. He wrote me the nicest note when it was returned. I can still picture him standing up in front of the classroom and hearing him talk. He had such a beautiful speaking voice. He will be remembered by his students as well as all the Yankee fans that heard over the loudspeakers of Yankee stadium. My sympathy goes out to your family in your great loss.

The end of an era...... My father recently passed away a couple of days short of his 98th birthday. He was a baseball player himself, having played on a semi-pro team in Connecticut before and after WWII. He was a die-hard Yankees fan and attended hundreds of games in the old Yankee Stadium right up until the end of his life. He used to take my brother and I along with him when we were younger. He would talk to many of the "old timers" before the games "back in the day". I can picture Mr. Sheppard and my father talking now and it brings a smile to my face. What a conversation! Rest in peace Mr. Sheppard. You will be missed.....

For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade

They'll live on in the heart.

I feel as though I have lost a family member. A New York City native, I remember hearing Bob's voice at The Stadium as a young boy in the early 1950's. He is as much a part of Yankee tradition as anyone in the team's long and star-studded history. Unlike most players, Bob's natural skills will never be replaced--he was one of a kind and will remain forever as a key component of Yankee tradition.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

First time I went to Yankee Stadium with my father, and the year escapes me, I thought God was talking to me. His deep wonderful voice always gave me a chill whenever I heard him speak at the stadium. He seemed like a true gentleman, and a giant at the mic. You can honestly say, there was never a bad word from Bob Sheppard, always number 1 with the Yankees and always number one in the hearts of every single person who ever stepped into the the house that Ruth Built and the House the Bob Sheppard announced in. Thanks for the memories, thanks for letting me hear you all those wonderful years.

I became a Yankee fan in 1951 - with Mickey Mantle and Mel Allen and, of course, Mr. Sheppard in the radio background. It was certainly a thrill to be able to hear Mr. Sheppard occasionaly, in person, when my father would drive us to the Stadium for a Sunday doubleheader from Utica and when I would drive my daughters to the Stadium for a game from Rochester. He will live forever in my memory.
Rest in peace, Sir.
