Sol Saks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2011.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Friends and family say the writer who created the television comedy "Bewitched" has died. Sol Saks was 100.

Saks' wife Sandra says he died Saturday at Sherman Oaks Hospital in Los Angeles, where he was being treated for pneumonia.

Saks wrote the pilot script for "Bewitched," but he never wrote another episode of the ABC series about a witch married to a mortal. The show starring Elizabeth Montgomery ran from 1964 to 1972.

Longtime friend Paul Wayne told the Los Angeles Times that the pilot script earned Saks royalties for life.

Saks is survived by his wife, daughter Mary Spivey, son Daniel Saks, two granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

His wife says no service will be held because Saks considered a lavish 100th birthday party a living memorial.

To The Family:
I think Sol had it right, we are to cry at a Birth and rejoice at a homegoing. Even though he's not here, in the flesh, his memories will remain forever. I, too, am a baby boomer who still enjoys watching Bewitched to this day. I am praying for your family.

Dear Sandy, Mary, and Danny,

Uncle Sol brought laughs to milions through his work, but the real treasures are the laughs that just kept going until the very end. The December party was a true loving legend to the Uncle who gave so much to all of us. With love and sadness, Cousin Gail

When you wrote the pilot script, Bewitched was destined to be an American Classic. Kudos to you, dear Mr. Saks. Generations will forever enjoy Bewitched because of you taking the initial step in setting the foundation of a wonderful family oriented show.

May your loved ones take comfort in the blessings bestowed upon you from millions of Bewitched followers, including myself, a baby boomer.

My all-time favorite show!!!!!! Thank you, Sol Saks! My daughter remembers me making her watch Bewitched before we went to afternoon kindergarten. I would tape the last 5 minutes for her. She now has an advertising degree just like Darren!!!!! Condolences to Sol's family and friends.

To the family of Sol Saks, I wish to extend my condolences for your loss.

I've enjoyed, and still enjoy, watching Bewitched. I remember when it first came on tv and I would watch on my black & white portable tv.

Rest In Peace, Sol Saks. Enjoy your reunion in Heaven with "Samantha" aka Elizabeth Montgomery & both "Darren's" aka Dick York & Dick Sargent.

Thank you for many many great escapes through such creative writing. Mr. Saks characters are lexicons in American culture: Aunt Clara, Dr. Bombay,Darren,
the nosy neighbor, and of course the line to say when ever I'm asked to do the impossible "Who do you think I am Samantha Stevens"?
