I just heard today about Cindy's passing. I am shocked and saddened. I first met Cindy while doing an internship at the Anderson Gallery. She and I worked on the Anderson's collection, where I found a wonderful etching by Van Gogh. She was a bright ray of sunshine, as one can easily see in her wonderful smile. I will keep her family in my thoughts and prayers.

i learned a couple weeks ago when i emailed her and jay responded. i can't tell you how affected i was with remorse and sadness... what a loss for us and a beautiful new spirit in heaven. Cindy visited my store,CIAO,in Carytown, the minute i met her i felt a connection, her soul and inner beauty just poured out of her...you know when you just love someone the instant you meet them? How could you not with cindy. my heart aches for her husband jay and family...but you will join her again. i think of her everyday now and say a prayer. we were so fortunate to have known her, and i really didn't know her well but she touched my life. i will miss her! cathy redding

I only learned today of Cindy's passing, and want to reach out to Jay and her family to share with you how she touched my life. I worked with her a few years ago as an artist advisor, and we spent hours together crafting word by word a new artist statement that could best communicate an art that operates outside of language. During that time I got to know her intimately, and was struck by her vision, her engaged questioning of her work and herself, and left our collaboration filled with her spirit of hope, beauty, and soulful insight. I will miss her so much, and know that through her art, and those she touched, she will be with us always.

I first met Cindy's work, in Austin & wanted to meet her then. Only a few years later did I get the chance in RVA. Kind, fun, and so very genuine, Cindy inspired me in many ways. I will never forget when we worked setting up Lucas Samiras' Mirrored Corridor at the VMFA; one day after lunch we lay down inside of our finished chamber to 'reflect' and ended up giggling in an-all consuming fit of laughter over the infinite reflections of ourselves. She was easy to LOVE. Profound Condolences to Jay, Dylan, Bryce and family.

Cindy and I were classmates and friends in junior high and later. I remember most: her smile & laugh, and how she was always quick with a witty remark.
She and I were debate partners in speech class ... she always took the difficult side of the issue and left me the easy one. When I asked why, she just laughed and said it was more fun to take the part that required more creative answers. And so it was with her life. I will celebrate her memory.

I met Cindy through a mutual friend around the time Martha started her gallery on Cary Street in 93 or 94. Her grace and passion for life in all of its dimensions inspired me... Our hearts are full for Jay and her family as the world is a little less bright now..

We are very sorry to hear of Cindy's passing. She was really a lovely person, and it was always a pleasure to see her. We have one of her original painted wooden bowls from 1992, signed. It has always been on our kitchen island as long as I can remember. Now when I see it daily it will remind me of a well loved artist, wife, friend. Condolences to her loving husband and family... RIP sweet lady.

I am deeply saddened by Cindy's passing. We met in grad school at VCU School of the Arts in 1986. When she graduated, I was the lucky one to get her darkroom at our run-down photo center on Harrison. She became a mentor and shining example. I will never forget her.

I hadn't seen her since her Fulton Hill Studio years, but I followed her online and on her site. I own two of her lacquered pieces, and always wanted some of her magical paintings. I'll remember her smile, her brilliant talent, and her courage.

I first met Cindy when she was single and living above the American Opinion Bookstore in the museum district. I invited her to join my gallery where she displayed painted bowls and painted furniture. She had one of the few authentic artist's souls of anyone I've ever met. She loved you, Jay, so much.
