Shirley Holzer Obituary

Holzer, Shirley Reed
Shirley Reed Holzer, 86, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away on November 2, 2014. She was born on August 25, 1928 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Leonard and Bennie Williams. Shirley grew up in Oklahoma and moved to the greater Los Angeles, California area where she graduated from Long Beach Poly High School. She attended the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) where she graduated with a dual degree in English and Education. At UCLA, she met her husband Nathaniel (Nat) Holzer. The two were married in 1951 and remained a loving couple for fifty seven years until Nat's death in 2008. After a couple of years living in Manhattan Beach, California, the couple moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Nat started an electronics business and Shirley taught elementary school for several years prior to having children. She was a loving wife and mother who always put her family first. Her regular activities included traveling the world with Nat, playing competitive bridge and taking care of her many beloved dogs. Shirley was an avid reader, often reading a book a day throughout her life. Many of her best memories were from her regular visits to Kauai, Hawaii. She enjoyed performing her volunteer work for many years with the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital Auxiliary organization. Nat and Shirley retired to Santa Fe in 1984 to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and weather. Shirley is survived by her two sons Michael and Todd, daughters-in-law Kristen and Molly, and grandchildren Keely, Liam, Christopher and Shannon. A memorial celebrating Shirley's life will be held in Santa Fe later this winter. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested the American Cancer Society or the Santa Fe Animal Shelter (Sfhumanesociety.org). Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505) 984-8600. Please sign our guestbook for the family at: www.berardinellifuneralhome.com
