I just learned of the death of Mr. Jack Swertfeger and extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family. As Director of Alumni and Development at Lyman Ward Military Academy,I had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Swertfeger. He was a Lifetime Member of The Lyman Ward Military Acadamy/Southern Industrial Institute Alumni Association. Mr. Swertfeger attended Southern in the late 40's before transferring and graduating at Camp Hill High School. Mr. Swertfeger was very interested in the school and it's continued success and always anxious to help in any way he could. Mr. Swertfeger was a very generous contributor to LWMA and we will forever be grateful for his thoughtful and caring interest and support. Mr. Swertfeger was truly a legendary southern gentleman and my life is blessed from having had the opportunity to know him. He will be greatly missed. May God bless you,his family, as you continue your life without his physical presence. His love and the precious memories will be in your heart forever and you will one day be joined together again.

Jack's eldest daughter, Suzanne, was my roommate at the UGA Kappa House in the early 70's. He and Ann were like second parents to me while I was at Georgia and I have loved them and their family all my life. He was a very generous man with his time, attention, affection and loyalty. He adored all his girls, especially his beautiful Ann, who was his only sweetheart his whole life from the time they met in kindergarten. So romantic! Jack had a masculine strength and charisma that made you realize he would have been a star in any arena. Tough and feisty with a great sense of humor and a soft heart, he was the kind of person who inspired adoration. I loved him, love his family and know their great loss and how they will miss him. My deepest sympathy and love to you, dear Swertfegers, yet happiness that you had such a wonderful man to love and be loved in return. He has blessed you for life.

As the former Mayor of the City of Lithonia, GA, I had the pleasure of meeting Jack where he served as our City Attorney. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him. May your memories of him bring smiles to your faces as you remember a giant who loved his family and Auburn football!
