Michael Lowitt

1934 - 2016

LOWITT - Dr. Michael Frederick died peacefully in The Villages, FL, after a long illness on November 21, 2016. Beloved husband of Joan Miles Lowitt for 38 years. Devoted father of Mickey and Eric, caring father-in-law of Jennifer and Allegra, dedicated brother of Bruce, and loving grandfather of David, Andrew, Dana, Alex, and Molly. Michael was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1934 to Dr. Irwin and Annette Lowitt. He earned his Bachelors degree from Long Island University and his Masters and Doctoral degrees from New York University. Michael held the position of Chief of Treatment Services at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center while counseling individuals in his private practice for 44 years. He was a community activist, most recently creating the Smithtown Holiday Project. Michael proudly served his country in the National Guard. A funeral service was held at Star of David Memorial Chapels on November 25, followed by internment at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, NY.
