Woelfel, Linus Andrew

Linus Andrew Woelfel, age 94, of New Holstein, passed way Monday, May 23, 2016 at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. Linus was born September 20, 1921, son of the late Lawrence & Helen (Sukowaty) Woelfel. He was a graduate of New Holstein High School, Class of 1940, and attended University-Appleton and Purdue University for short courses. Linus served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded Asiatic Pacific Theater Service and Army of Occupation Japan Medals. On September 9, 1943, Linus married Rose Marie Heimann at St. Martin Catholic Church.  

Linus was a self-employed dairy farmer until his retirement in 1984 and also worked for Catholic Knights as an insurance agent for 41 years. He was a member of the Chilton F.O.E for 68 years, Catholic Knights for 74 years, and life member of Chilton VFW Post 3153, and past Commander. Linus was a member of Holy Rosary Parish in New Holstein, and a former member of St. Martin Parish in Charlestown. He was a life time member of St. Martin Heritage Park. Linus enjoyed woodworking, tending to his vegetable garden, playing cards, taking care of his bird feeders, trips to the casinos, and collecting coins. A Jack of all Trades, he enjoyed spending time fixing anything he could get his hands on or being a teacher, problem solver to anyone in need. He especially loved traveling with Rose Marie, to every state, except Alaska. International travel included Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Japan. There was always a special place in Linus' heart for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Linus had a fantastic sense of humor and will always be remembered for being a happy, creative individual, who loved to tell stories.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; his children, James Woelfel of Holt, MI, Ronald W. (Helen) Woelfel of Green Valley, AZ, Kathleen (Bob) Arndt of Elkhart Lake,  Eunice (Dan) Buretta of Fond du Lac, Larry (Doreen) Woelfel of Huatulco, Mexico, Ellen (Tom) Lidtke of West Bend, Roger (Cathy) Woelfel of New Holstein, Dori (Jim) Schmitz of Elkhart Lake, and Nancy Woelfel of Denver, CO; 16 grandchildren, Paulette, Scott, Brian, Brenda, Brandon, Tony, Joe, Jill, Mike, Katrina, Jason, Jonathan, Caryn, Neil, Mason, and Barry; 4 step-grandchildren, Heidi, Caitlin, John, and William; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Linus was preceded in death by his in-laws, William (Mary) Heimann; son, DuWayne; son-in-law, Robert Hodgen; daughter-in-law, Kathie Woelfel; sisters, Apolonia Reiser, Winrich, and Ozzie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Beatrice, Helen, and Dolores Woelfel, Germaine Koehler, Victor Geiser, Harold (Agnes) Schmitz, Harvey (Angela) Mathes, Alphonse (Theresa) Buechel,  Hilary (Clarissa) Gebhart, Joe (Louise) Heimann, Clarence (Marie) Heimann, Leo Krebsbach, Roman Reiser, and Orville Klauck.

Funeral Services will be at 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at St. Martin Heritage Park (N3298 Cty T) in New Holstein with Deacon Pat Knier officiating. Entombment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park. Friends may call at St. Martin Heritage Park from 2:00 pm to 4:45 pm on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in memory of Linus Woelfel at St. Martin Heritage Park.

I didn't have the honor of knowing Mr. Woelfel. After reading his obituary, he was a marvelous, Christian man. He is a true Patriot!! Thank you Mr. Woelfel for defending our country--the greatest country in the world--thanks to Veterans like you!!
