Gene Champ Obituary
Ridgeville - Gene Dawson Champ, 94, of Ridgeville, IN, passed away at 05:45 AM, Tuesday, June 27th, while in the company of family members, at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital, Winchester.
Gene was born in Powers Station, IN on November 7, 1922, a son of the late Lucille (Claycomb) and Ralph Champ.
He was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in WW II.
He worked as a Baker at Aunt Molly's Bakery Redkey IN., GTE retired
Former member and founding member of Ridgeville American Legion Post, former Minor League baseball player and umpire
WW II Army veteran with American Theater Medal and EMAE Theater Medal with five Battle Stars and WW II Victory Medal
He was the widower of Elsie (Blunk) Champ.whom he happily married June 18, 1960
Gene is survived by a daughter, Bonnie, wife of Bob Weatherhead, of Ridgeville;
eight sons Rodney Gant, of Winchester; Mike, husband of Robin Champ, of Rocky MT NC; John Champ, of Arizona; Jeff, husband of Beth Champ, of Ridgeville; Jerry, husband of Lisa Gant, of El Cajor, CA; Tony, husband of Vickie Gant, of Winchester, IN; Sam Champ, of Ridgeville, IN; Jim, husband of Ashleigh Champ, of Randolph IN;
He is also survived by 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Joyce Fuller, of Redkey, IN; Sandra Kennedy, of Ft. Wayne, IN; a brother, Royce (Sonny) Champ, of Redkey, IN;
Besides his loving wife Elsie, Gene was preceded by Daughter Patti Ann Burns, Sister Colleen Lewis, brothers Ding Ralph Champ and Joe Champ
Friends may call at MJS Mortuaries Ridgeville Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, and one hour prior to services Saturday, July 1, 2017
Funeral services will be held in MJS Mortuaries - Ridgeville Chapel, with Pastor Jonathan Edwards officiating Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
Graveside Military Services will be conducted by Ridgeville American Legion and Randolph County Veterans Lawndale Cemetery Ridgeville, IN.
Services have been entrusted to MJS Mortuaries Ridgeville Chapel.
