Eleanor McFARLANE Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 9, 2015.
McFARLANE, Eleanor
Forever a traveller and life-long learner, Eleanor McFarlane (nee Hainsworth), born 1940 ended her battle with breast cancer on May 6, 2015. Eleanor was an energetic, feisty and proud mother of three girls: Fiona, Carol (Pary) and Petra (Alex). A pioneer single mom who taught her girls to be strong, independent and confident, Eleanor enjoyed many past times including adoring her family, swimming, aquafit, lawn bowling, bridge and most importantly travel, a passion to the end. World travels included Saudi Arabia, much of Europe, Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, Turkey, Jordan, Mexico, the USA, Cuba, Syria and Peru. She was always embracing and nonjudgmental of all cultures – a true and unique trait. Lovingly dedicated to her granddaughters (Sienna and Teagan), Eleanor cherished her grandsons (Stryder and Dax) whenever she visited Toronto. Her lifelong love of dogs meant that 'walkies' was one of her favourite expressions. Juno, Tubbies, and more recently her daughter's dog Tillie - along with cats Kiwi and Benjie - were loves of her life. A Celebration of Life will take place Monday, May 11, 2015. One Christmas we announced we were going to Peru to visit my husband's family. Eleanor said she always wanted to see Machu Pichu so we said why don't you come? So she did and she had a great time. That's the kind of person she was, always up for an adventure. She was also a great supporter of the CBC where I work and even volunteered at some events. She did a lot of volunteering and advocating for others. We are saddened by her passing and painful loss to her family. We'll always cherish our good memories of her. May God grant her eternal rest and peace. Amen.

I will miss Eleanor, our talks, her caring attitude. She was a good friend.

From our conversations, I've learned that Eleanor loved her family especially the grandchildren and she was so very proud of her daughters.

I pray that may God be very close to all of you at this time and may you find comfort in your memories of your Mom , your grandmother and may the love and peace of God envelope and comfort all of you.

Eleanor was a good neighbour. We had many interesting conversations over the years. And she was kind enough to drive my very ill 15 year old dog Brigitte and myself to the vet when it came time for Brigitte to be euthanized. It was a very difficult time for me and I'll always be grateful for Eleanor's support. I'd like to express my deepest sympathy to Eleanor's family and friends. Losing her is a terrible loss.
