John Blanchette Jr.

John (Jack) Blanchette, Sudbury, Mass and Santa Monica, CA passed away on March 4th, 2014 due to Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Jack had worked in the entertainment field for over 30 years and was a travel, wine and food writer. He had a monthly column in the American Institute of Wine & Food magazine "Savor This". Jack's clients included Cary Grant, Bob Hope, Michael Jackson, Jay Leno, the Gabor sisters, and many others. He was active in charities including Thalians, Make a Wish Foundation, Concern Foundation, The Actors Fund, Leukemia Foundaiton, No child Goes Hungry. Jack worked at studios including The Caucus For Producers, Writers & Directors, the American Institute of Wine & Food, 34th Annual Sci-Fi Awards. Jack's film promotions included Argo, Behind the Candelabra, Il Postino, L.A. Confidential. He produced the Marina Jazz Festival and was co-producing the PBS TV series "Wine Harvest Festival". Jack's career began as an editor at Harvard University Press after studying English Literature at Harvard and Boston College and Anglo-Irish Studies at Trinity College, Dublin. He was bitten by the entertainment bug and moved to Los Angeles to work in "the business". Jack was a very generous person with an outgoing personality. He loved meeting new people and drumming up a conversation on just about any subject. Jack was the son of the late Margaret and John Blanchette. He leaves siblings David, Tom, Stephen, Don, Janet, Mary, Richard and Chris, brothers in law Dennis Kirkley and James May and sisters in law Anne, Sheila and Mary, and 13 nieces and nephews.
