Dear Amy & Duncan,
It has been 1 year and 1 month since we all lost Dale. Dad and I find that it has not gotten easier, just different. Some days are better than others but seeing the strength and courage that you show in your new life with Duncan is very inspirational and humbling. Dale is very proud of the both of you, I am sure. You two are our heart and joy...we feel very blessed. Love, Dad(Pa) & Mom(Nana)

I just received my annual Christmas card from my cousin, Jean, Dale's mother. I am so sad for Jean, Bob, Amy and the rest of the family, especially his son, Duncan. Although I never had the opportunity to meet Dale, I can see so many parts of my family in him - his interest in science, his spirit of adventure and his Norwegian heritage. It is so nice to read of what an inspiration he was to his students. He did die doing what he loved, and he knew the dangers, but it is always heartbreaking to lose someone so talented and so young. My thoughts are with you, Jean, so much right now. I am happy you had the wonderful times at the Waiohai. Yes, we need to truly cherish the moments with our family.

Dear Mrs Brabec,
It was my first year at High School in 1996,(Matevulu College, VANUATU) and I met him, he was a wonderful man with so much enthusiasm and great person too. May his soul Rest In Peace (R.I.P)

I had Mr. Brabec as an astronomy teacher and him and Mr. Schumaker are the main reason why i graduated. I hated being in school but Mr. Brabec once told me that it was only four years and well worth it. He also was one of the few people that congradulated me when i had both my sons and got married. I hope that someday Duncan will get to read all the entries and know just how much of a difference his dad made in every childs life that he taught. Im so so sorry for your loss and hope time will help with the pain.

Dear Mrs. Brabec,
I would like you to know what an impression your husband left w/ both of my sons. My junior Jacob had Dale for astrology and my senior Jimmy which just graduated tonight had him for physics. Jimmy & Monica spent most of the year lunches w/ your husband.. They studied together & my son told me how Dale would call his son & you every lunch period & the finger paintings all over his wall from his son.. I truly hope that one day you will find your smile again.. We all have you in our thoughts & missed you both tonight.. I have tears streaming down my eyes now writing this.. I wish you the utter most strength & happiness.. Dale would have wanted that for you & your son.. You are in our prayers... Much love the Lawrence Family .......

My deepest sympathies and prayers go up to Anchorage to you and Duncan, Amy. You probably won't remember me from Zuni Middle School, but I was inspired by Dale's mid-school teaching and by both your enthusiasm, exuberance, love for the Zuni students and for the outdoors and especially by your deep respect and love for Dale.
I cherish those flickering memories and know that God and your faith will get you through this horrible time.
I wish you all peace and renewal.

Dear Mr. Brabec,
I'm still in shock that you are not here. I remember your astronomy class like it was yesturday. Everyday you had a smile on your face. Even though I graduated West in '03, I'm going to miss running into you around town. I remember when you came into my job to have your vehicle serviced and you were there saying that I was one of your favorite students and you told my manager that I was a smart young lady. You always had good things to say about your students. You expected nothing but the best from all of us. I'm sadden that we all have to grieve for you now but at the same time your life is REALLY beginning with the Lord and the rest of the Angels. I hope your son follows in your foot steps. To your wife, I hope that even though his body is no longer here....his spirit will always remain in your heart and soul. When you guys married the Lord said " YOU WILL BECOME ONE FLESH!" Dale will forever live on! I wish you and your family Peace in knowing that he is in a better place. When God calls us home it's because He wants us to be with him. He makes no mistakes. Stay Blessed!

He brought the wonder of the Universe to his classroom and lit a candle to the expanse of the heavens. Infinite blessings and solace to you and your Family Mr. Brabec.
