Gary Hone

Gary Hone, 83, of Blackfoot, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.

He was born November 15, 1931 in Groveland, Idaho the son of Darwin Lee Hone and Juanita Caldwell Hone. He grew up in Ontario, Oregon, where he attended schools until his senior year when he returned to Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School. He attended one year of college at Utah State on a football scholarship.
On September 1, 1950, he married Doris Dayley in Pocatello, Idaho.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A past member of the Elk's Lodge and J.C.'s.

He farmed in Ontario, Oregon, Winnemucca, Nevada and Blackfoot, Idaho. In 1959 he started his own business, Gary Hone Excavating. While in the excavating business he did many projects throughout Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Oregon.
He then moved to Great Falls, Montana where he continued in irrigation. He and his wife, Doris, also ran Hone's Country Garden from 1988-1996.

He enjoyed fishing and boating. He was a real sports fan. He loved gardening and spent many hours in his greenhouse.
Gary is survived by his wife, Doris, of Blackfoot; children, Wynn (Debbie) Hone of Rockford, ID, Kirk (Marla) Hone of Begrade, MT and Stephanie (Chirs) Jensen of Riverside, ID; sisters, Sharon (Dean) Lundblad of Coeur'd Alene, ID, Gwen Doss of Story City, IA, and sister-in-law Doris Hone of Declo, ID; sixteen grandchildren and sixty three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Blake "Butch" Hone.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Riverside 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Bryce Moser conducting.
The family will meet with friends on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
