Howard Irons Obituary
AGE: 77 • Island Heights
Howard L. Irons Sr., 77, a lifelong resident of Island Heights, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011, at home. Throughout his career, he was a Heavy Equipment Operator and retired from Sambol Construction in Toms River in 1992. After retiring, Howard wanted to stay active and drove for AA-1 Taxi in Toms River. He was an Army veteran and enjoyed playing league softball. Howard was a huge and dedicated Philadelphia sports fan; he loved the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Janet Peterse and Wilma Stephenson; and his brother, Lloyd Irons. Surviving are his beloved wife of 48 years, Arlene Harriet Irons; two sons, Howard L. Irons Jr. and his wife Petra of Egg Harbor Twp., and Timothy F. Irons and his wife Anna of Toms River; his sister, Zeta Louise O'Neill of Upstate, N.Y.; and three cherished grandchildren. Rachel, Timothy Donald and Thomas Howard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 2, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Military Honors will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3 at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ, 08015 in Howard's memory.

howard and his brother lloyd and i were close as young adults ... we played a lot of softball together and later in life we talked often on the phone keeping current with family ... his dad williard and my grandfather allie were brothers ... when he was young his nickname was flea, likely because he was fast like me... we had a great relationship ... i will miss him

I want to offer my condolences to Mrs. Irons, Harold and Timmy on the loss of Mr. Irons. I always remember going to the Phillies games as a kid with Mr. Irons, my Dad, my brother Bob, Harold and Timmy and we had a lot of fun.
