Juanita Martin Mika

AGE: 87 • East Brunswick

Juanita Martin Mika died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Care One in Jackson. She was 87. Born in Oklahoma, she resided in Linden and New Brunswick before moving to East Brunswick in 1959. Mrs. Mika was a member of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, East Brunswick, for 35 years and a member of the East Brunswick Senior Citizen's Club. She also volunteered at East Brunswick High School by talking to students about going through depression. She was registered nurse at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, where she worked for 15 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alex, in 1997; her son, Marty in 2010; her brother, Buddy Martin and three sisters, Minnie, Helen and Margaret.

Surviving are her son, Donald A. Mika and his wife, Sylvia and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Mika, all of Jackson; and two grandchildren, Steve and his wife, Ariana and Eric.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.

So sorry to read about Juanita's passing. She and my Mom were very close friends many years ago. They always stayed in touch even after my parents moved out of NJ. Here's a tidbit to make you smile. When I got married 43 years ago, one of the wedding gifts from the Mika's was an ironing board! I hated to iron, but taking the ironing board out always made me think of Juanita. May she rest in peace.
