Alcie Copeland Obituary

96, of Gridley passed away on October 25, 2010 at Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital. She was born August 11, 1914 in Aldrich, Missouri to James and Osa Lowrey. She married Howard E. Copeland March 5, 1933. They moved to Southern California were she worked at Fluvor Corporation in accounts payable. In 1943 they lived in Alaska where she worked as an overseas investigator for the military base in Northway, Alaska. They settled in Gridley in 1948 with their daughter Betty Jean, where they ran the Union gas station on Sycamore Street. Alcie was a hard worker all her life. She was a realtor for Century 21, a financial advisor/broker for Puttman Investments for 46 years, an Avon representative since 1948. She was known by many as the "Cracker Jack Lady," handing out cracker jacks on Holloween, seeing many returning generations of children each year. She loved life and the many friends she met along the way. She is survived by her daughter Betty Spencer of Gridley; grandchildren Brad and Lynne Spencer of Gridley; great-grandchildren Sarah Smith and Jeremiah Smith of Gridley; nephew Bob & wife Sue Lowery of Aldrich, Missouri; and nephew Bill Lowery of Ozark Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Osa Lowery, husband Howard Copeland, sister Wilda Rice, brother Keith Lowery, and son-in-law Winfred Spencer.
