Alice Palmer Obituary

Alice "Sandy" Palmer 79, of Yuba City passed into the arms of the Lord on December 25, 2010. Born in Fallen, NV, Sandy came to the Yuba Sutter area with her family in 1946 and remained a local resident for 64 years. She is survived by three daughters: Gail Mann and Barbara Wickersham, both of Yuba City and Christie Mullins of Chico; a sister, Loveta Thrailkill of Nevada; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren to whom she was known as "GiGi." Sandy worked at Andy's Drive-In as a car-hop in the 50's and during this time was crowned the first Miss Yuba City. She later worked for a local surgeon as a bookkeeper. In the late 70's, she found her niche working for Sutter County as the Public Guardian and Conservator until retiring in 1993. She remained active by chairing the local branch of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI); was chairperson for 10 years for the local March of Dimes; a past member of Quota Club and The Business for Professional Women; and a member of the local Republican Women's Group. Since her love for caring for people never left her heart, Sandy kept several clients under conservatorship on her own time. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Yuba City for many years and later became a member of Hope Point Nazarene Church in Yuba City. A private burial will be held for family and an open Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 3rd at 11:30 at Hope Point Nazarene Church, 600 N. George Washington Blvd, Yuba City. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the local NAMI branch or the local March of Dimes. Send Condolences at www.appealdemocrat.com

I met Sandy in the early 80's when she was the guardian/conservator for my father Jack Rice for a number of years. She was one of the most efficient and personal individuals I have ever met. Our family was very grateful for all of the work she did for our father. She always said he was one of the most challenging, but rewarding patients she had since he was full of jokes and practical jokes.
In the early 2000's, years after Dad's passing. I bumped into Sandy at one of her favorite hangouts The Cook'N'Pot. She remembered everything about our family and told me some old stories about Dad I didn't even know. This beautiful lady will be missed by all of us who have had our hearts touched by her. Rest in Peace young lady!!

I had the pleasure of working in an office right near Sandy, with the Co, and sharing a friendship and political philosophy with this wonderful lady. She did so much for those in the community with a mental illness and for their loved ones as well. Now her suffering is over and she is reaping her reward in heaven. with deepest sympathy, Karen Cartoscelli.

I have been friends with Sandy Palmer for 30 years. During this time I have known her to be a true friend. Always there to lend a hand or a kind word. I never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. She had her illness but always took the time to call and ask how I was doing. I will miss her smile and her "Hi Kid " whenever I saw her. When she worked for Sutter County Conservator's office she would take care of her clients as she wanted to be treated. It didn't matter what they needed, she would be there for them. Sandy fought a hard battle with her health and on her last day of life we sat and talked about all the times we shared together. We laughed and asked each other where the years had gone. Sandy never left things unsaid or undone. I know her family will miss her understanding voice. Always remember that you will see your mother again. I like to think of her in Heaven saying hello to Nadine and Sharon and finding out if Heaven has a Cooking Pot. Rest in Peace dear friend.

I am Dean Wheeler, Sandy's cousin. I always felt that Sandy was a great friend and cousin. She always had a cheerful outlook on everything, in spite of a lot of hardships and health problems.
All of the Wheeler cousins who lived in the area used to get together for brunch at Ruthie's in Yuba City. We all looked forward to these visits, and Sandy was always full of jokes and good stories.
We will miss her, but are so thankful for the many years we knew her.

To Sandy's Family,

We send our heartfelt sympathy to you in the loss of your dear mother. Our friendship goes back a very long way and she never changed . Her spunk, spirit and infectious smile was always present through good and bad times. I even remember her car-hopping at Andy's and more than fifty years later we continued our friendship. She will always be remembered and her memory will live on in all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Fondly, Janet & Ed Baur
