YOUNG, Capt. Robert CAPT. ROBERT D. YOUNG Capt. Robert D. Young, Cobb County, GA Sheriff's Office, age 81, of Powder Springs, GA died on August 15, 2010 after a prolonged illness. Capt. Young was born in Fitzgerald, GA on November 16, 1928 to William Orvis and Mary Lee Clements Young. He spent his youthful years in South Georgia and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Sicily during the Korean War July 1950 through May 1954. Capt. Young is survived by his wife Marjorie Lewis Young, sons Victor Alan, Travis Daniel, Milton Scott Young and step daughter Elizabeth Macneal Patterson; Grandchildren Robert Alan Young, Toni Rene Young, Mathew Young, Mason Young and Austin Young; four great grandchildren; two step brothers and sister-in-law Jeanette Young. During his thirty-six years in law enforcement, he served twenty years with the Sheriff's Office, Capt. Young served as Shift Commander at the Cobb County Detention Center responsible for over 900 inmates and detention center operations. He attended Secret Service School, the FBI Academy and the Georgia Police Academy. He was also a member of the Georgia Sheriff's Association, Georgia Chapter of the Police Officer's Association and Cobb County Retired Employees Association. Visitation will be at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St., Marietta, Georgia on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment and a family service will be held graveside at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Tifton, Georgia.
