Ms. Pauline Louise Pledger, Age 89, of Cedartown passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2005. She was born on November 8, 1915 in Polk County, to the late, Mr. John L. and Mrs. Bessie Pledger. Ms. Pledger was a Polk County native and a descendant of Asa Prior founder of the City of Cedartown. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cedartown where she was a past general secretary and also a past member of the historical committee. She worked at the local Georgia State Employment Service office for nearly 4 decades. Ms. Pledger started working for the office on September 8, 1938 and retired on February 1, 1977. Ms. Pledger was a Beacon of Dedication and Service to the citizens of the City of Cedartown for thirty-eight years. January 28, 1977 was declared "Pauline L. Pledger Day" in Cedartown. She was active in civic and social affairs in the community and was a past recipient of the Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds for her long list of volunteer and community services. She was treasurer for the Cedartown Federated Women's Club; the corresponding secretary of the William Witcher Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; a board member of the Polk County Community Concert Association; president of the Cedartown Music Club and the Cedar Valley Garden Club and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. Ms. Pledger was one of the two founders of the W.D. Trippe Trust that benefits Cedartown children and a lifelong board member of the Trust. Affectionately known as "Miss Pauline" she will be fondly remembered in her community and throughout the State of Georgia for her wisdom, loving smile and for being such a "Southern Lady". Ms. Pledger is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Pledger and Asa Pledger; and a sister, Irene Bales. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Virginia Osburn of Atlanta; four nieces, Mrs. Betsy Broussard of Atlanta; Mrs. Susan Ohlson of Petaluma, California; Mrs. Peggy Hansen of Brevard, North Carolina; and Mrs. Patti Crosswell of Sugar Grove, North Carolina. Also surviving are 7 grand nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Ms. Pauline Pledger will be conducted on Friday, September 16th at 11:00 o'clock in the morning in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Cedartown. Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund in Cedartown or Hospice of Atlanta. The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home in Cedartown is in charge of arrangements for Ms. Pauline Louise Pledger.
