Family-Placed Death Notice

HANEY, Neena McLain NEENA McLAIN HANEY Neena McLain Haney passed away Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 in Canton, Ga. She was born Neena Scott McLain in her home on 501 E. Main St. Canton, Ga on December 8th, 1917. She was the last of seven children born to Jesse Andrew & Neena Scott McLain. All her life she was addressed as "Baby" by her family. At Canton High School she met her life's love, J. B. (Sonny) Haney, Jr. They graduated together as members of the Class of '37.They married on the 28th of June 1941 and had nearly 70 years together. After high school, she attended Crawford W. Long School of Nursing earning a degree as a registered nurse. During WWII, she worked as a surgical nurse at the Veterans Hospital in Atlanta. After the war, she and Sonny settled in Canton and began their family. For the rest of her life she devoted her time and energy to making a home for her husband and children. She joined the Canton First (United) Methodist church in Canton before she married and was a faithful member until her end. She is survived by her children Neena Scott Haney Smith (Glenn) of Athens, Peter Medford Haney (Mary) of Alpharetta and Jehu Benjamin Haney III (Nance) of San Antonio. She has five grandchildren; Sarah Elizabeth (Brandon) Raney & Alice Kate Haney of San Antonio, Andrew Alan Smith of Athens, Benjamin Scott Haney and Jeffrey McLain Haney of Alpharetta. She has two great grandchildren, Margaret McLain Raney and Benjamin Miller Raney of San Antonio. She is also survived by her nephew John Cadle (Harriet) of Canton. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Jesse Andrew McLain, Jr., Ruth McLain, Charles & Martha McLain, Sarah M. McLain and Mary McLain Cadle. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the management & staff of Cameron Hall Assisted Living Center and Heritage Hospice. A memorial service is being held Saturday, September 29th at 1:00pm in First United Methodist Church Chapel in Canton. Visitation is Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:30pm at Darby Funeral Home in Canton. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations in her name to the First United Methodist Church,930 Lower Scott Mill Rd, Canton,Ga 30114. Interment will be at Enon Cemetery in Woodstock in a private service. The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
