Mr. Richardson was my vocational shop teacher at Baker HIgh School and later my colleague when I returned to the school after Georgia Tech to teach math, coach and start an administrative career with entry from the student personnel/guidance side of schooling. I sought his guidance often in those early years and valued his friendship over the years. There are too few truly dedicated professional educators like Jere Richardson. May he join Jeannette and rest in peace. J. Foster Watkins, BHS '55
Jeff Richardson
July 5, 2013
My name is Jeff Richardson and I just found this obituary.
I am sorry to learn of Jere's death - he sounds like a very fine man.
I believe we were 3rd cousins - Jere through Bertram Richardson, Oscar Jacob Richardson, John W. Richardson Jr., and John W. Richardson Sr. of Rutledge GA. Me through my father (living), Tommy Richardson, Earnest Philip Richardson, the son also of John W. Richardson Sr.
I would very much like to connect with the family. I have just discovered recently a shared cousin living in Covington, GA as well (descended from Oscar Richardson through Bertram's brother John Whitlow Richardson.
Thank you for putting together such a useful obituary as well, they are so important for family history.
Yours truly,
Jeff and Missy Richardson
(rather than put an email address here, we are listed in the Newport KY phone listings under my wife's name, if you would like to contact me, which I hope you do)

Dear John and family- I am saddened to have read about Mr. Richardson in the church bulletin. I can still picture your dad and hear his voice. I have many fond memories of nights at your house playing cards. Your mom and dad were great people. I remember that before we could go on a work team mission we had to have some classes to be trained. Your dad showed us how to patch holes in sheet rock. He said it was kind of like a woman putting on makeup and trying to fill in the wrinkles and smooth the complexion. He had a sense if humor- mostly dry humor. Again I am grateful that I knew him and I understand your loss.

I enjoyed getting to know Jere. He would frequently come up to the church office and chat with me. He was very kind to help me with a project in making little wooden name tags for a spiritual retreat. I will miss his visits in the church office.
Peace be with you all.

Please accept our condolences on Mr. Richardson's passing. My friend, Jim Richardson, spoke of his father fondly and often. It is also clear from his obituary that we all owe Jere Richardson a significant debt of gratitude for his service as an educator, veteran and community leader. I hope your memories of him are some comfort to you in coping with your loss.

Mr. Richardson was my eight grade shop teacher at BHS. It was my pleasure later to teach and coach at Baker and to come to know him as a real educator as well as a committed teacher with students. His leadership with what is now Columbus Tech was extraordinary. All of us have enjoyed his participation in the quarterly alumni luncheons at the Golden Corral. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Jere was my Metal Shop Teacher in my Junior Year. I learned a lot from him and appreciated his wisdom. It saddens me to know that we won't see him again until we reach the other side. God Bless a Great Man.

Mr. Richardson was my Wood and Metal shop teacher. I have nothing but a great respect for this man. We became very good friends when I retired. Whenever I did some work at his house we would sit and talk and he told some of the best stories. I had him on the radio show three weeks ago and he seems upbeat. He loved Baker High and its students very much and he himself told me that his best years were at Baker High. He is now with his old friends, Mr Boyles, Dr Kirby and students.

Mr. Richardson was a fine gentleman and a very good friend of my dad, Jimmie Entrekin. They spent a lot of time together with the Vocational activities associated with Jordan Vocational High School and the Muscogee County School District. They were traveling buddies for many vocational meetings and events. My dad was waiting for Mr. Richardson when he arrived in Heaven. I am so sorry for your loss.

Jere was a fine man and an asset to the community. He will be remembered. He and I worked together along with Bob Culverhouse at the old school building downtown many years ago. I recall that he had the most cluttered desk, but could find anything until his secretary had as he described, "a hiding fit". We took a trip down the Chattahoochee one time to Eufaula on a houseboat. I would see him occasionally at Rotary when I would make-up downtown. He was always happy and upbeat. Great guy! He will be remembered fondly.
