David BERRY Obituary

David R. Berry, age 63, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2017, surrounded by his wife and children. A gathering for friends and family will be from 4:00 -7:30 pm at Southcare Funeral Society on Wednesday, October 25, with a eulogy service at 7:30 pm. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life Mass at 1:30 pm on Thursday, October 26th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Dave was a man of many talents who honored God, loved his family, and greatly respected his country. His joy for life and infectious laugh will be cherished forever by those who loved him, especially Nancy, his wife of 39 years, and their children. Dave is survived by his devoted parents, brother, several sisters/brothers-in-laws, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Dave grew up in Massachusetts and Long Island – where he developed a lifelong passion for history and sailing. A graduate of the University of Dayton, Dave leveraged his communication skills in marketing and real estate before turning his talents to home remodeling - running his own business for twenty years. Outside his work career, his personal passion was forensic historical research – specializing in World War II and the 82nd Airborne Division. Dave was a featured contributor to over twenty books on World War II, and wrote for and appeared in several History Channel documentaries. The family offers special thanks to all the veterans (past and present) and their families who bestowed the honor of friendship on Dave.
Dave lived his life with passion and happiness, and he will be greatly missed. Until we meet again, we wish you fair winds and following seas.

Remembering you and Nancy fondly, Dave, as always this time of year. Memories grow ever more precious, as I´m sure all families and friends experience, even though many aren´t aware of this helpful Legacy alert. We appreciate sharing memories with Nancy, in person or here. Our best to the children and grandchildren.

Dear Nancy and family,
Every year, the memories grow fonder of our time with you and Dave in Ohio and Georgia. Never to be forgotten.

Gone too soon, never forgotten. We wanted to know Dave for much longer, but found a treasure trove of friendship in the times we did have. A fellow University of Dayton alum, Dayton and Atlanta neighbor, congenial and fun dinner companion at iconic places (Dante’s Down The Hatch, Canoe, and more).
We mentioned your memory, Dave, with new friends and old, just last month (Sept. 2020) at The Dock in Enon, OH, and always hold a toast up for you in our hearts when we are there. Our love to Nancy and family. Fondly, Jody & John

DB and I were roommates at UD when we lived with 4 other guys at 58 Frank Street. One of those guys noticed his death notice. Lost track of him after his wedding. Sorry and happy to learn of those he left behind. I've a lot of great memories of DB, The Ruptured Duck, and many adventures. So sorry for your loss.

Dave was so helpful with his research into my father's death and burial location in Retie, Belgium. He put us in touch with families in Belgium and his passion for facts from WWII just put all the pieces together. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

The memory of Dave will be with me and my family forever....I'll never forget his personal interest and help he bestowed upon us in researching my Pathfinder pilot uncle Gene Shauvin's mysterious crash and disappearance.....all of the wonderful people he brought into our lives with his tireless research.
Dave was an amazing man and I'm so honored and humbled to have been able to know him and call him friend.

Thanks to Dave's passion and genius at research, my family got answers to questions we had wondered about since my father's plane was shot down over Belgium in 1944. Dave touched the lives of so many families connected with that flight, both here and in Retie, Belgium. We are eternally grateful.

Dave was the most interesting neighbor. We watched him construct a boat in the yard, sell a Jeep, borrow and lend tools, treat our teenager with respect, laugh infectiously, and enhance our Beavercreek area. Our very deepest sympathies to you, Nancy, John and Allison.

We miss you already, Dave, and remember you fondly as you and Nancy initiated dining across the region with us and friends as we sampled the great offerings throughout the area. Your humor and broad knowledge enlivened our gatherings. We will raise a toast to you every time we visit the special places we were lucky enough to share with you and Nancy.

Our condolences to Nancy and the entire family.

Nancy, I have no words to describe the sadness I feel. Dave was one of my oldest friends, we shared so many laughs and stories doing airshows - Ironically I won't be able to attend the service on Wednesday, because I'm working on a Television Production in California - A career Dave got me my first break in. As I told him many times, I owe him EVERYTHING.
Rosann & I are planning on relocating to the Atlanta area (for Film jobs) next Spring, I would love to stop by again and see you.
God will bless my friend Dave, he was a kind selfless man, always helping others and giving more than he took.
He was an original.
