Ronald Read Smith, 59, died on Wednesday April 7th, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ surrounded by his family. Ron was born September 27, 1950 in Billings, MT to parents Fred and Charlotte Smith. He graduated from Billings West High School and Montana State University, with a degree in Business Management. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1986 and married his best friend and soul mate, Gail Zimmerman Smith, March 14, 1987. Ron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a remarkable sense of humor with an uncanny ability to make people laugh. His family and friends are left with endless memories of his quick witted responses to life's events. Throughout his life, Ron excelled at many sports including; golf, baseball, basketball, and bowling. As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Missoula Country Club, participating in golf tournaments and annual golf trips to Idaho with his buddies. Ron enjoyed watching the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, and Arizona Cardinals, often coaching from his position on the couch! He also loved road trips on his Harley Davidson with his wife Gail and their many friends, including trips to Sturgis, Canada, and Oregon. Ron is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gail Smith, daughter Casee Chavez and husband Andrew, son Dan Smith and wife Miriah, daughter Megan Charles, brother Ken Smith and wife Susan, six beautiful grandchildren, Haylee, Rylie, Emilee, Andee, Kylah, and Daniel, and puppy Harley Read. Ron leaves behind a legacy of integrity, hard work, love, and laughter. He will be missed beyond expression. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday April 13th at 1:00pm, at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church at 4455 E Lincoln Dr, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dear Smith Family,

I was so sorry to read of Ron's passing. I went to high school with him, but then lost touch over the years. He was a well liked classmate and many of us enjoyed his great sense of humor.

Please accept my condolences and know there are many people in Montana who have you in their prayers.

Gail, Casee, Dan, and Megan,
