Wendy Wilkinson Obituary

Wilkinson, Wendy Marthe Kruidenier
Was born October 28, 1957 in Greenwich, CT and passed away December 29, 2011. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister and aunt, who put her love of family first, her love of friends second and her love of horses third. As a young girl, Wendy was a competitive swimmer and accomplished equestrienne, who won trophies and awards throughout her childhood in Scottsdale, Arizona, An avid skier, she graduated from the University of Colorado in 1979 majoring in Journalism and was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Wendy started work at Reid Advertising in Costa Mesa, CA and joined Ogilvy and Mather in L.A . as a media buyer. She met Philip Wilkinson, Univision's Western Sales Manager, who became the love of her life. They married in 1985. In 1990 they formed Cabrillo Broadcasting, a Spanish language television station and moved their family to San Diego County. As an active member of the Junior League and National Charity League she participated in community work wherever she lived, but her greatest passions were her family, friends and horses. She was a loving and dedicated mom who could always be found attending lacrosse matches, soccer games and horseshows - often serving as team mom or watching ringside as her horses jumped their course counting the steps between fences and ready with a carrot or a treat. Generous, loving and devoted Wendy was the rock, the glue that held family life together, encouraging everyone she touched to make the world a better, kinder place. She will be deeply missed by her many family members and friends. She is survived by her husband Philip Wilkinson of Rancho Santa Fe; her children Nicholas, Chelsea and Ryan; her mother Elizabeth Kruidenier of Carlsbad; her father Peter Kruidenier of La Jolla; her sister Carol Luery of Sacramento; and her 34 nieces and nephews and their families. A charitable fund has been established to honor Wendy's life. Please make donations to: The San Diego Foundation and note "The Wendy Kruidenier Wilkinson Charitable Fund" in the memo line of the check. Address: San Diego Foundation, 2508 Historic Decatur Rd. Suite 200, San Diego, CA 92106.

To my dear Delta Gamma sister's family,
I send my deepest condolences. Wendy was a loyal and lovely friend through the years! I will especially miss her beautiful Christmas notes updating me on her beloved family. May God bless you all.

December 27, 2013

I met Wendy in 1981 at J. Walter Thompson Advertising where we both worked. Wendy and I also lived near each other in Playa Del Ray and we became good friends for a year. She was an amazing woman, as many people have remarked in this memorial. It was an honor to have known Wendy and I will never forget her.
She was the kind of person that made you confident about life and made you believe that all was possible. My heart goes out to her Husband, her Children, her Sister, her Mother, her Father and all those who were near and dear to her. God Bless you Wendy and thank you for all you brought to this world.

My twin sister Alice and I were classmates of Wendy's in elementary and high school. We lost touch after graduation in 1975 and were saddened to read of her passing. We were Delta Gammas too (at the University of Arizona). I knew there was something I liked about Wendy!
