Gladys Cottriel Obituary

Gladys "Lucile" Cottriel July 22, 1926 - November 20, 2010 Lucile Cottriel, age 84, passed away November 20, 2010, in Bakersfield, CA. She passed peacefully from this world into the presence of her Lord. She was born July 22, 1926, in Los Angeles, CA. Lucile is survived by her son, Marne and daughter-in-law, Edith Cottriel of Paradise, CA; granddaughter, Lisa and husband Rob Wright of Paradise, CA; grandson, Darren and wife Kimberly Cottriel of Laguna Hills, CA; great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Danny Wright, Christian, Wyatt and Paige Cottriel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Fred Cottriel. Lucile lived in Los Angeles until 1942, when she moved to Ventura where she met her future husband, Fred. She and Fred were married at Lucile's parents' home on March 7, 1943. At the time, Fred was serving in the Army. While Fred served overseas during WWII from 1944 to 1945, Lucile lived in Los Angeles where she worked as a secretary in the Southern California Divisional Offices of the Salvation Army. After Fred's return from WWII, Lucile served with her husband as ministry partner, pastoring several churches in Washington, Kentucky, and California. They served as missionaries in Europe for several years before moving to Bakersfield in 1973 to pastor First Assembly of God Church. In 1980, the Cottriels moved to Costa Mesa, CA, where Lucile served beside Fred during his tenure as Superintendent of the Southern California District of the Assemblies of God. Lucile enjoyed traveling and was privileged to minister with Fred in over 70 countries. After many years of full time ministry, Lucile and Fred returned to Bakersfield to retire in 1993. Even during retirement and until Fred's death in 2008, they continued to minster to others in various capacities in Southern California and abroad, sharing the message of Christ. Lucille was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting things for friends and family. She had the unique ability to remember people's name, their birthday and facts about them and their family members. To those who knew Lucile, she will be remembered as a friendly, outgoing, optimistic and caring person, who devoted her life to the Lord's ministry. Her family will miss her love, concern and companionship. Lucile's legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched as a mentor and friend. There will be a viewing at Hillcrest Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at Bakersfield First Assembly of God, 4901 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made in Lucile Cottriel's honor to the library at Hope Vocational Technical Institute in Honduras. Donations may be made through WorldCare Ministries Network, 1864 Vineyard Dr., Paradise, CA 95969. Interment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA, on Friday, December 3, at 10:00 a.m. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Marne and Family,
Sincere condolences regarding your Mother's passing. I was a member of Bakersfield First Assembly and had the pleasure of calling your parents my pastors. She will be greatly missed until we can see her again. Marty Catania Lakin
