Harold Lackey Obituary

Harold Ray Lackey November 30, 1943 - November 14, 2010 Family and friends will be gathering for a memorial service honoring Harold Lackey at Mish Funeral Home, 120 Minner Ave., Oildale, CA on Saturday, November 20, at 1:00 p.m. Viewing is scheduled for one hour prior to the service. Harold was born November 30, 1943 to his parents Ernest and Mildred Lackey in Orange, CA. He passed away suddenly on November 14, 2010 at the age of 66. He was a reliable hard working employee of Coast Gas for 15 years and worked for the last 6 years for EIU. He and his wife of 46 years, Ida, enjoyed camping with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman enjoying times at the aqueduct and Lake Isabella with his best friend John. He even tried raising his own worms. He enjoyed gambling and his trips to Tachi Palace. He also enjoyed going to the races with his son Steve and grandson Josh as their Pitman. He was also affectionately known as "Grumpy Bear" to the younger people around him. Harold was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Joyce Burrell. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ida; sisters, Pat Roberts and Linda Ogburn; sons, Brandon and his wife Michelle, and Steve and his wife Sandra; grandchildren, Justin Lackey, Erin Lackey, and Josh Wolford; and many friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who had the opportunity to know and love him. www.bakersfield.com/obits

My family and I have known the Lackey family for over 30 years. I have very many memories of our life in Rosedale that include Steve and Harold. Harold would stop by the store where I work and ask, "You got any biscuits and gravy, Sheryll?" When I would say, "Yes, would you like some?" Then he would say, "Nope, just checkin'" and smile. My prayers go out to your family during this time.

It can honestly be said that there was never a dull moment with Harold around. He came by the office a month ago and i'm so glad i got to see "Grumpy" one more time. But even with that tough exterior, he didn't fool me! He was a wonderful man:funny and kind, a true friend. He spoke often of his family with love and pride and spoiled his grandkids rotten! I'm going to miss him so much. Rest in Peace Harold. You and your family are in my prayers. Eternal rest grant unto him o Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

I too worked with Harold at Coast Gas. He often had a calming effect on me, especially in stressful situations.
I was lucky to have worked with him.

Who will ever forget our Harold...he was the founder of "jack of all trades" and it runs in the family too, Steve got that! I will very much miss all the teasing and taunting he always did to me. You all are in my thoughts!!!

I met Harold through his wife Ida who is a very dear friend. Harold helped me out several times with fence and plumbing repairs. He impressed me as a very handy and hard working person with a great personality. Even though I only knew him a short time I could see he was a great husband for Ida and I know he will be greatly missed.

My heart goes out to Ida and her family. I have worked with Ida for 11 years and she is the sweetest woman I've ever met. I only met Harold one time at the grocery store, but I can say he made an impression on me. He seemed like such a kind spirited man. You all are in my prayers.
