Fred Guerber Obituary

Fred Guerber November 25, 1935 - November 28, 2010 Fred Guerber passed away November 28, 2010 at the age of 75. He was the first child of four, born to Flora and Fred W. Guerber, on November 25, 1935, in Batesville, AK. Fred came with his family to the Delano area when he was 6 years old. He attended Delano schools, and graduated from Delano High School in 1955. After graduation he trained thoroughbred race horses for 3 years. In 1958 he married Wanda Harp, a total of 52 wonderful years. They were neighbors for many years, attending the same church not knowing someday they would marry. In 1961 Fred started his business in McFarland known as McFarland Tent & Awning where he manufactured agriculture items for farmers, dairies, cold storages and truckers. The business was named Business of the Year in 2000. He retired in 2007, after 47 years in the business. Fred had many hobbies such as horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and pack trips in the mountains. He enjoyed putting pack trips together for friends and family. He was a member of the Elks Club of Delano and The High Sierra Stockman's Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Guerber. He is survived by his wife Wanda, sister Carolyn Ptomey and her husband Andy of Porterville, brother Larry Guerber and his wife Shirley of Fresno, and sister-in-law Patty Guerber of Washington, 8 nephews and 7 nieces. Services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Family Life Worship Center, 501 W. Perkins Ave., McFarland, at 10:30 A.M. Presiding minister: Steven Ptomey. Arrangements by Lane Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield in Fred's name. www.bakersfield.com/obits
