Gene Lawhorn

Gene Lawhorn Gene Lawhorn, 78, died November 27, 2010 at his home following a strong and brave battle with cancer. He leaves his wife Eula, of 53 years, his three sons, Keith, Dan, and Jody, nine grandchildren and three great - grandchildren. Born in Checotah, Oklahoma, the son of Harv and Basheba Lawhorn. He later became a lifelong resident of Bakersfield. After leaving Oklahoma and coming to California he was drafted into the Army. Upon returning from Korea, he began a career with Lehr Brothers. He managed their field crops and orange trees for over fifty years. He always took pride in his work and truly relished the friendships he made at the ranch. Gene was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, camping and the sunshine. He taught all of his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren everything he knew. He has fostered in them a life-long love of nature. Gene was proud of his accomplishments in the military and with Lehr Brothers but nothing compared to his pride and love for God, his country and his family. Visitation is Wednesday, Dec. 1st, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Basham Funeral Care 3312 Niles Street. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2nd, at Basham Funeral Care.
