Dear Bernie, Karen, Joe, and Lori,

The loss of your Dad from this life on earth is devastating; the impact this one man had on so many lives is immeasurable.

He was a walking contradiction of terms. A giant in terms of height, but as unimposing as a quiet kitty. His voice; vociferous when he sang, but gentle when he spoke. His dry wit belied his straight face. Principled, but forgiving; firm but flexible.

Your Dad is the man I would have chosen to be my own father... if I could have. He opened up his heart, home and life to me and the rest of my family and the effect was profound.

Both of your parents led by example. Both believed in the human spirit, the power of redemption, and the healing of forgiveness. Both practiced their faith like no one else I knew.

So many seeds planted. So much love grown.

Now together again, leaving the rest of us to carry on their work, nurturing what they started.

I will miss seeing your Dad, but when I look at each of you, I will see his smile. I will see his eyes. But most of all, I will see his love.

We are sorry to hear of this loss to the Schenning family. Mr Bernie was a great parishioner and very active in the liturgical ministry. When I saw and head Mr Bernie lectoring I would think kindly of my father who did the same. We also remember in my family how this very kind man complimented my children when they used to altar serve at mass. You are one of God's bright shinning stars.
