Merlah Huffman Obituary

Merlah J. Huffman Battle Creek Merlah J. Huffman, 87, of Battle Creek, died peacefully with her daughter at her side, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Care Residence. She was born April 3, 1923, in Hickory Corners, Michigan to Henry and Mabel (Fenn) Dorwin. Merlah's parents were farmers in the Calhoun County area and worked for Dr. Kellogg. In Merlah's teen years they settled in Battle Creek and she has resided here since. She attended school in Dowling and at W.K. Kellogg. During WWII Merlah was employed at Eaton Corporation. Merlah was united in marriage to Gerald D. Huffman, the love of her life on July 26, 1945. She was preceded in death by Gerald, her husband of 38 years on January 19, 1984; and also by her parents. Surviving are her daughter, Jacqueline A. Huffman of Battle Creek and several nieces and nephews and their families. Merlah was a member of Garrison Hills Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed cooking for special functions at the church and was always willing to help out. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting and especially loved spending time with her friends. At the request of the family, friends will be received 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where services to celebrate Merlah's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Interment will follow at Bedford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to remember Merlah may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Care Residence.
