Darlene Laub

Darlene Laub, 77, of Granite City, Ill., born May 18, 1940 in Stewart County, Tenn., died Monday, August 7, 2017 at home with her family by her side.

Mrs. Laub was elected in 1985 as Assessor for Granite City Township. She was the first woman elected to a Township office and served 35 years, retiring in 2016. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and former member of the Rotary Club of Granite City, Ill.; Women's Division of Chamber of Commerce; Illinois Association of Assessing Officers; Madison County Democratic Central Committee, Granite City Business and Professional Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Willard and Margaret, nee McGovern, Melton; and sister, Brenda Joyce Melton.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Frank J. Laub III, whom she married September 27, 1957 at St Joseph Catholic Church, Granite City, Ill.; her children, Frank J. (Deanne) Laub IV of Granite City, Ill., Greg (Cindy) Laub of Edwardsville, Ill., and Beth (Joe) Juneau of Granite City, Ill.; a brother, Edward Dewey (Karen) Melton of Granite City, Ill., and Larry (Late Sharon) Melton of Wiggins, Miss.; beloved grandchildren, Katie (Ben) Martin, Kelsey (Zach) Jarvis, Kari Laub, Nicole, Tyler and Trevor Laub, David Smith, Mark (Meghan) Smith, and Danielle, Chad, and Brittany Juneau; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Evie Jo Martin, November Blaylock, Makenna and Maddox Smith; dear friend, Joann Vaughn; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis, 1604 Eastport Plaza Dr. No. 102, Collinsville, Ill. 62234.

Services: In honoring Darlene's wishes, cremation will be held with private family interment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill., with Rev. Jeffry Holtman, O.F.S. officiating.
