Richard Greene Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2016.
On June 27, 2016 Richard "Scott" Greene, 48 passed away in Bellingham Washington. Scott was born to Richard Greene and Susan Lange in Portland, Oregon on August 23, 1967. In 1974, after receiving his first guitar in Connecticut and forging his life-long love of music, Scott and his family moved to Marblemount, Washington. Scott called Marblemount home through his high school years. He attended Concrete Elementary School, La Venture Middle School in Mount Vernon, and Mount Vernon High School, before graduating with honors from Concrete High School in 1985. Throughout his life, Scott could be found engaged in any type of music related work: from helping a youth select their first guitar, to producing music for himself or others in his studio, to his greatest love - performing on stage with his bands. Scott also worked as a craftsman and generously supported many family and friends with their endless home-improvement projects. Scott loved to give himself to such projects and valued this time with family and friends. At the time of his death he was an active and founding member of The Scott Greene Band. Scott found joy throughout his life collaborating with bands from various musical genres. These included: Confessor in the 80's, Slick Watts and Hard Margaret in the 90's, The DT's in the 2000's, and the past several years as lead man for Luke Warm and the Moderates and The Scott Greene Band. Through different musical endeavors he found opportunities to express himself through the written lyric, record his music, and travel the country and abroad performing in a variety of venues. Scott was known to be a caring and sensitive man. He enjoyed time with his immediate family as well as his extended family of the Bellingham music community. With the special support of his loving life-partner, Kristy Carpenter, Scott continued to find music at forefront of his life, traveling to Las Vegas for a concert by one of his favorite artists only a month ago. A crowning moment for Scott was celebrating the recent completion of the final production of his extensive musical works before his passing. Through the generous effort of The Scott Greene Band members and other close friends, his final compilation "Still" is being released this month. Scott is preceded in death by his father, Richard D. Greene (64); uncle, Jon E. Greene; and aunt, Toni P. Jarms (Potter). Scott is survived by his immediate family: his mother Susan Lange (Potter) of Mount Vernon; his siblings Marke Greene (Angela) of Seattle, Stefani Greene-Koetje (Robin) of Edmonds, Becki Lange-Holmes (Dan) of Portland, Jordan Lange of Burlington, and Brandon Lange of Mount Vernon; his step-mother Judie Greene of Bellingham; his step-siblings Dani Cox (Anthony) of Mount Vernon, and Eric Crinklaw (Lisa) of Bonney Lake; as well as his uncle Gideon Potter of Mount Vernon and aunt Mara Greene of Spokane. Nieces and nephews: Anastasia and Dominic Greene, Dorothea and Daphne Koetje, Kenny Cox (Jenny), Courtney Cox-Caswell (Justin), Madison Crinklaw, and Isaac and Lucy Holmes. Scott's life was an inspiration and joy to many through his friendship, mentoring, and creativity. He was always willing to lend a hand, instrument, lyric, string, or tool. Many people attribute their artistic growth to his guidance and support. His spirit will live through the musical endeavors of those who were touched by his warmth. Please join us while we remember, share and celebrate the generous melody that was his life. Rock On Scott...Rock On! A celebration of Scott's life will be held on July 10, 2016 at 2pm, at the The Majestic Hall, 1027 N. Forest St., Bellingham, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Scott's memory to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center or UW Medical Center-Alvord Brain Tumor Center.

I didn't get to finish the entry.. I was an old friend, and remember playing with scott and mark as a child, we were bouncing up and down on their bunk bed. I fell off the bunk bed wrong and caused a fracture to my elbow, this was how much fun I remembered with them and your family. He will be missed. ..

I dated scott(if you can call it that) in middle school at LaVenture. I would go to his house and he played open arms by journey on his guitar . I thought he was dreamy ! What a great guy, heaven has one more angel!!!!

I met Scott in the late 80's through mutual friends. We didn't really hang out outside of those groups. But inspite of that, I've always considered him a good friend. A lot of people know that he was a gifted guitar player but Scott's real gift was his happy demeanor & his inclusive personality. I'm glad to read that other people saw that as well. I'm certainly going to him.

I still have a long string of Scott Greene texts that I will never delete, his wry comments mean so much. I got to know him initially at Chuck Prophet shows; Scott, Greg (Pitsch, my husband) and I ended up at all of them and they felt like our little secret. When Scott played gigs of his own or with Greg, I would always tell him (and I meant it) he's one of my top 5 favorite guitarists and the other 4 aren't here. I'm glad I took so many photos at gigs over the years because he just looked so happy to be in his element. And Maybe Scott spoke so quietly so he could draw people in close to him. You are missed.

We became close through music, specifically an admiration for the singer/songwriter/guitarist Chuck Prophet. Scott and I both wrote songs and worked on some together, so it was hard toward the end when he couldn't talk and I was at a loss for what to say. He was well loved by so many and I know he left this world knowing and feeling that love. Thank you Kristy Carpenter for being his angel when he needed one.

Scott Greene... I miss you my good friend... but I know we will meet again soon... you will be playing some Heavenly music, Rocking the Heavens and when I hear thunder in the sky I will know that you turned up your Marshall Stack to number 11... and playing your best Guitar Solo ever...

July 2, 2016

In a lifetime spent consorting with a wildly eclectic assortment of people from dock workers to musicians & actors to massive real estate developers & corporate captains, Scott was hands down, unquestionably the single most authentic person I've ever-or likely WILL ever know. He was a blithe spirit doing his own thing, yet as personable & charming as it gets. Best musician I've jammed with, but more importantly, when we were organizing a cancer benefit for another friend several years back, he was first to volunteer-while I was still asking others, he'd literally responded the minute he got my message. God take & keep you Scott, and my prayers for peace for his beautiful, equally talented soulmate. Man, this one just really hit me hard.
