Kristie Westover Obituary

Kristie Lundstrom-Westover, 64, who reigned as one of Bellingham's most gregarious and fun-loving dinner and party hostesses, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital February 8, 2015 surrounded by many friends and family who cherished her. Born Helga Kristina Clark on June 14, 1950 in Taft, CA, to James Clark and Gunvor Solvaig, Kristie inherited a passion for the culinary and decorative arts and for fashionable shoes from her mother, an immigrant from Ålesund, Norway. For most of her adult life, Kristie created sumptuous meals and party fare, catered weddings and other large events, and wore through many stoves and kitchens with her love of cooking for family and friends. Her fabulous recipes have been published in Sunset Magazine and the Lynden Tribune. She loved nothing more than to entertain guests, and she enjoyed a good happy hour. At the age of 16, her family moved to Tacoma, WA, where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968. In the early 1970s, Kristie graduated from beauty school and soon met her first husband Larry Ivan Lundstrom. Kristie and Larry enjoyed over 30 years of marriage in Bellingham, WA, until Larry passed away in 2005. They had two sons together, Brent and Robin Lundstrom, along with grandchildren Ashton and Lyla Lundstrom. Soon after Larry's death, she met and married the love of her life in Jim Westover. Jim and Kristie enjoyed cooking, entertaining, traveling, shopping for shoes, and playing trivia, Yahtzee, and cribbage. Kristie worked for Western Washington University for over 30 years, where her career blossomed as the Events Manager in the Alumni office. Students, staff, faculty and alumni remember her for putting on amazing events and trips and for helping to establish the Golden Vikings program for those who have spent 50 years or more as WWU alumni. She was also the creator of the official WWU raspberry brownies that were served at Homecoming events. Kristie was also able to unite people with her generous spirit and volunteered her time to the Bellingham YWCA and Heart Association. Friends and family are welcome to attend a Memorial Service starting at 3PM Monday, February 16th at Lairmont Manor in Bellingham, with happy hour to follow. Arrangements by Moles Farewell Tributes. As a young college student in the early 1980's, I worked with Kristie in the campus mail room. Kind and considerate, Kristie always looked after me ensuring all was well, even inviting me to the family home for dinner. Upon graduating from Western, I visited Kristie occasionally when she was up at Alumni House where she would greet me with the same enthusiasm as she did when working in the mail room all those years earlier. I feel grateful to have known Kristie and was saddened to read of her passing. My condolences to the family.

Robbie and Brent,

There are no words to describe the heartbreak I feel for your loss... You all were a big part of my childhood; I really wish that I had gotten to spend more time with you guys during her final years. I remember how she always made us kids feel at home and welcome when she would have me and my brothers over for supper. She was a really, really great person, and we all have a lot of work to do to fill her shoes. I will forever cherish my memories with her along with you guys so we can all make sure she carries on through the people she touched in life. I hope both of you guys are okay, and I hope to see you guys soon.

Best regards,
Ray

Jim, Kristie and You are forever remembered for taking such great care of my clients and myself at the numerous events that you catered for me. I think it was one of the first boat trips we did and there was a snafu with the oven which was maybe a little stressful at that moment but you both managed it so well and everyone loved what you did for them that evening and many other times .. I will always think of Kristie when I am on a sunset cruise in Bellingham Bay. Sincerely Mike Perry

Brent and Robbie, Your Mother made my tenure with the Western Alumni board Super fun and So memorable. I know other members would agree. She took such special care of us to see that she had on hand what we liked to have for those "happy hour" portions of our trips! Not to mention the famous brownie recipe that my wife has in the cupboard and uses for our families special occasions to this day.Do you remember going to Apex mountain one time and having a blast and at the end of the trip picking Robbie up with the bus full of people at at the ER after his crash... countless memories and good times.. Bless you.
