1920 - 2010 ARLINGTON, VT George Ernest Zimmer, 89, a resident of Buck Hill Road, Arlington, died peacefully Monday, April 26, 2010, in Sebring, Fla., where he had been wintering.

Mr. Zimmer was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 5, 1920, son of George Washington and Sybilla E. Grossjung Zimmer. Following high school graduation he went to work for the Mack Molding Co. in Wayne, N.J. When Mack made the decision to move to Vermont at the age of 19, he relocated to Arlington. This was in 1939. In 1942, during World War II, he enlisted in the Army where he served proudly until his discharge on Dec. 20, 1945. Much of his time had been spent in the European Theatre. Upon returning to Arlington he re-joined Mack Molding and worked at the company for a total of 43 years, retiring as a tool maker.

Mr. Zimmer was a life member of the Harned Fowler VFW Post 6471 in Manchester, member of American Legion Post 69 in Arlington, a former member of the Arlington Fire Company and Arlington Lions Club. He had been a communicant of St. Margaret Mary's Church. His life's passion was restoring his Victorian home on Buck Hill, which was his wife Ruth's dream house. Following retirement, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and New England and he developed a passion for playing golf. For the past several years he has wintered in Florida with his sister Jeanne.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ruth Janet Keough, whom he married at St. Columban's Church (now St. Margaret Mary's) on Oct. 26, 1946. Mrs. Zimmer died June 7, 1991.

Mr. Zimmer leaves his sons, Daniel J. and wife Sandra Zimmer of Arlington, Michael J. and wife Beverly Zimmer of Arlington and Steven E. Hi Mike, Dan, Steven and all the extended family. Eighty-nine is a long life and I alway remember you dad as a happy man. I was looking recently through the new Ron Shick book on Rockwell photo's and models or maybe Buddy Edgerton's and there was a reference to your dad. He did have a face with a twinkle. Hope you are all well. Tom Pelham
