Why can't i think of anything to say? Because I'm still in shock!
Nancy was born the same year as me.
With her death I feel my own mortality.
I just hope that i come close to being as good and kind and thoughtful and loving a person as Nancy Heidel.
She will continue to travel with me in my soul offering counsel and caring when i need it.
Her earthly body was no longer needed by her expansive spirit.
I send my love to her.

Dear Nancy's family,
I met Nancy in September of 2006. I was new to the OR as a secretary. Nancy was one of the first people that I got to know. I had such a hard time remembering everyone's names, but Nancy made it real easy to remember who she was!She was the one with the red lipstick! Nancy made me feel very welcome and accepted in the OR right from the start.
I liked it when she filled in as the charge nurse. I always knew she would get the job done and add excitement in various ways to the day. Many times I would be on the phone trying to have a serious conversation with another department and I would hear Nancy say something impulsive to me or someone else or she would do something that would get my attention and I would have a hard time staying composed.
On a serious note, Nancy knew that my five children are of the utmost importantance to me. She could tell when I walked into work in the morning that something wasn't going right and took the time to say "Hey, are you OK?", with that compassionate look on her face and give me a quick hug. During the course of the day she would take the time to check in with me and often walk past my desk and throw something(soft) at me to make me smile.
I really enjoyed it when Nancy would sit down beside me and share her family pictures with me and brag about her whole family. She was so proud and her face lit up when she talked about life in general with her family, events taking place, and trips being planned. She looked like she was on cloud nine when she talked about her family. When I saw her getting ready to leave at the end of the day and she told me that she was taking off on any type of a journey with her family, her smile couldn't have been bigger. That always impressed me. I hope my own children will be the same way.
My thoughts will always be with all of you and also with her closest friends. That laugh and smile will always be fresh in our minds.
A friend

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Nancy was an amazing woman, both personally and professionally.
She always had words of wisdom, for any situation.
Though my time to work with Nancy was brief, it seemed like forever.
She was one of the most compassionate nurses that I have ever met.
I had the pleasure(as pleasurable, as surgery can be) of being her patient, and even though I was quite sedated I remember everything she said to me, and her comforting ways.
She will be deeply missed by all in the OR. Her smile, her laugh and her voice will always be in my heart.
My thoughts and prayers are with you, her family and friends.
