Born in Lee on July 29, 1938, daughter of James and Nancy Davenport Bush, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s School and a 1956 graduate of Lee High School.
Mrs. Hughes was employed by the Lee Chamber of Commerce, and before that, as a waitress at several local restaurants. She was a telephone operator in Lee for New England Telephone Co. during the 1960s, and later worked in the right-of-way agent department in the Pittsfield office.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a volunteer at its bingo games and school lunch program. She was a member of the Lee Housing Authority and volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and the literacy program at the Lee Library.
She and her husband, John T. Hughes, were married Sept. 5, 1959,
Besides her husband, she leaves five sons, Christopher F. Hughes of Fall River, Francis X. Hughes and Andrew J. Hughes, both of Lee, Matthew A. Hughes of Tahoe City, Calif., and Patrick J. Hughes of Stockbridge; a daughter, Sheila M. Hughes of Pittsfield; a brother, Thomas J. Bush of Lee; two sisters, Nancy Ditello and Carol Ferrero, both of Pittsfield, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Rosemary B. Hughes will be tomorrow, July 23, at 9:15 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers friends wishing may make donations in her memory to the Lee Regional Visiting Nurse Association, HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to St. Mary’s School in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Turner, in 1984.
