Robert Dallmeyer Obituary

Robert F. Dallmeyer

1938 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Robert F. Dallmeyer, 76, passed away in his Los Angeles, Calif. home, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, after a three month bout with throat cancer. Born in Pittsfield, to Frederick and Madeline Dallmeyer, he graduated from UMASS Amherst in 1955. He leaves behind his loving husband, John Vannucci; two daughters, Kimberly and her husband, Jon, of Nashua, N.H., and Kristen and her husband, Amer, of Southport, Conn.; his biggest source of pride, his five grandchildren, Benjamin and Julienne Kapelson, and Rakan, Ramzi, and Rashad Nimr, and countless extended family and friends that span across the globe. Bob was President of RD International, a global exhibition management company, for the past 30 years. Through his 51-year career in the trade show industry, he ran some of the most prestigious trade show events in the world and became a beloved mentor and icon. His professional life culminated with his induction into the Convention Industry Council's Hall of Leaders, the International Association of Exhibitions and Events' (IAEE) Pinnacle Award, and Trade Show Executive's Legend and Leader Award. He was energized by every moment of life, every person he met, and lived life to the fullest. He was a true inspiration to all who came in contact with him. Beyond that, he was a poet, mentor, teacher, speaker, world traveler, radio show host, published author, activist, and friend. One of his great passions was serving the LGBTQ community throughout the country, most recently, in LA, through The Lavender Effect and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. A "Celebration of Life" memorial will be held in his honor this summer. The family has asked, in lieu of flowers or cards, that any donations be sent to the IAEE education fund, set up in his honor, Bob Dallmeyer Education Fund, 12700 Park Central Drive, Suite 308, Dallas, TX 75251, The Lavender Effect, or the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. To make a contribution by credit card, call (972) 687-9203.

Another year of missing my dearest friend and remembering all of the crazy times, the quiet times, all of the love you showered on me. I hope to see you in the 'great by-and-by, wherever that may be.

Long time since you left us and I still think of you so very often. The experiences we shared, the fun and laughs we had, so much time, but never enough. You of all of those in my life was my 'one true love', not in the conventional way, but our hearts joined in the most meaningful relationship of my life. Miss you so. Hope to someday meet again in the "Great Tradeshow in the Sky" where will will have adjoining booths along those streets paved with gold.

Bob, my friend when you get up there, please do not try and organize things and talk to Him about how it could be run better. The way it is now, your friends can join you, otherwise we will have to pay fees and get Exhibitor badges. I miss you and January 1 will always be your day.

John and Bob's children, I graduated with Bob in 1955 from Pittsfield High School. Bob emailed me often and kept me informed of his whereabouts. He had a wonderful career. We had coffee when he came to Pittsfield. We caught up on a lot of history and had a lot of laughs. He was a great person. This is from the class of 1955. He will be missed.

As a Dutch student I met Bob many years, while working with him during airshows in Europe, together with my cousin Smitty. A very warmhearted man passed away. I feel very sorry for his relatives.

Both my wife Debbie and I feel very fortunate and blessed for having been part of Bob Dallmeyer's world. I first met Bob in 1971 when he convinced my management at United Aircraft of Canada to send me to Paris to assist and support Bob at the Paris Air Show where he was the corporate co-ordinator. All I can say is it was an experience and an education for which I am eternally grateful because prior to that event I had not known anyone as colourful, creative and dynamic as Bob. Through the years we were involved in many other events together and there was always a feeling of warmth and friendship which lasted through the years virtually up to the day he left us. And now there is a void...going to Los Angeles will never be the same without visiting Bob with his wonderful entourage in his beloved La La Land!
