Lucille Farris Obituary

Jan. 26, 1919- Dec. 14, 2016 Of Alabaster, Al was born on January 26, 1919 and died on December 14, 2016, at the age of 97. She was the daughter of George L. Scott, Sr. and Annie Pauline Williams Scott of the Longview area in Shelby County. She was the last remaining survivor of the children of George L. Scott, Sr. (Founder of Alabaster Lime Co). She was married to W. M. (Mack) Farris who preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by daughters Mary F. Roensch (Burns), Janet F. Standridge (John), and Joanne F. Enck (Steve) and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Standridge, Christopher Ryan Standridge, and Mary Allison Roensch Tyler. Lucille was born at the old Scott home in Longview (Saginaw), Alabama. She graduated from Alabama College (University of Montevallo) in 1942 and served on the Board of the University of Montevallo Foundation. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Alabaster. She worked for many years with her husband and was instrumental in the success of the family businesses: a Shoe Shop and Dry Cleaning Store, a Hardware Store, Farris Building Supply, Farris Building Co., Farris Land Co., Farris Management Co., Inc., and Briarcliff Nursing Home, all in the Alabaster area. She was a loving, kind, devoted, and generous mother to her children and grandchildren. The family would like to extend special gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful caregivers who nursed her in the latter years of her life: Ruby Fox, Mary Black and the other members of her staff and the staff of Kirkwood by the River. A graveside service was held at the Nabors Cemetery on Saturday December 17, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials for her be given to your favorite charity in her name.

Mary Mack, Jo & Janet---My heartfelt sympathies go out to you. Your mother was a wonderful person. I have fond memories of her at our church, our parents association as friends and of her at Farris Building Supply. I worked there for 6 summers and remember her working in the office there. My grandparents, Mr & Mrs Oscar & Zola Meeks knew the family's well. My granddad worked at Alabaster Lime co a lot of years ago and was good friends with Mr Scott. I'm not sure but I think my mom fixed Mrs Lucille's hair in Alabaster many years ago (Stylette Beauty Shop) my mom was Jeanette Bishop. My sincere condolences for the family. We all should take note of her great style, generosity and grace.
